High school roundup: Laurel Highlands claims final spot in WPIAL boys soccer playoff field

Cole Radcliffe had four goals and an assist to lead Laurel Highlands to a 7-0 victory over Albert Gallatin (2-15, 1-13) in Section 2-3A boys soccer Tuesday night.

The result, coupled with Bethel Park’s 3-2 win over Ringgold, clinched a playoff spot for the Mustangs.

Elliot Boor had a goal and an assist, Matt Kolencik and Jack Baker also scored and Dan O’Neil, Toby Downs and Matt Komacko combined on the shutout for Laurel Highlands (11-7, 7-7).

Aquinas Academy 4, Beth-Center 0 – Marco Anselmino had two goals and Jonah Burchill and Andrew Giancola also scored to lead Aquinas Academy (12-5 past Beth Center (10-7) for the nonsection win.

Beaver 5, Eden Christian 0 – Anthony Furda had a hat trick and Seth Kullen and Shane Ebbitt also scored to lead Beaver (13-4) to a nonsection win over Eden Christian (8-9).

Beaver County Christian 2, Portersville Christian 1 (OT) – Ethan Guevara scored the overtime winner, assisted by Ben Crefeld, and Zach Stephens also scored to lead section champ Beaver County Christian (14-2) to a nonsection win.

Bentworth 11, Serra Catholic 1 – Caden Hackinson, Adam Moessner, Ryan Moessner and Austin Hollier all scored two goals apiece to power Bentworth (17-0) to a nonsection win. Billy Moyer, Blake Lusk and Jude Laskey each added a goal for the Bearcats. Tyler Graham scored for Serra Catholic (6-10).

Bethel Park 3, Ringgold 2 – Youssef Benrabia scored the winning goal in the final two minutes of regulation and Julian Koontz and Thomas Opferman also scored as Bethel Park (12-1-3, 12-0-2) finished its Section 2-3A schedule unbeaten with a win over Ringgold (8-8, 7-7). Izaiah Wilson and Joshua Molisee scored for the Rams.

Chartiers-Houston 2, Brentwood 1 (OT) – Shane English and Ryan Thomas scored to lift Chartiers-Houston (9-7) past Brentwood (7-9-1) in nonsection play.

Chartiers Valley 1, Montour 0 (OT) – Jake Walker scored the overtime winner as Chartiers Valley (10-4-1, 9-2-1) defeated Montour (9-8, 7-5) in a battle of playoff teams in Section 4-3A.

Deer Lakes 16, Leechburg 2 – Cuyler Crim buried three goals, Artemis Parshyn and Peyton Kushon each had two goals and three assists and Colton Bish and Nolan Adams tallied two goals each as Deer Lakes (13-3-1, 11-1-1) cruised to a Section 1-2A win against Leechburg (1-16-1, 1-12-1). Jacob Orseno, Collin Rodgers, Connor Moore, Sam Dischner and Ryan Liggett each tacked on a goal for the Lancers.

Franklin Regional 4, Uniontown 0 – Fabrizzio Costa scored a hat trick and Cruise Lamanna added a goal and an assist as Franklin Regional (15-3, 8-2) clinched sole possession of first place in Section 3-3A with a win over Uniontown (5-13, 1-9).

Freeport 5, Burrell 1 – Spencer Valasek and Ryan Sutara netted two goals apiece and Dante Treglia also scored to send Freeport (10-7-1, 6-7-1) to a Section 1-2A win. Adam Scheftic converted a penalty kick for Burrell (4-14, 4-10).

Greensburg Central Catholic 4, Jeannette 2 – Grant Brewer scored a pair of goals to lead Greensburg Central Catholic (4-10) to a nonsection win over Jeannette (5-11).

Hampton 2, Knoch 0 – Xavier Ware and Landen Bieker scored and Gavin Guinn preserved the shutout as Hampton (14-2-2, 10-0-2) defeated Knoch (5-12-1, 4-7-1) to secure the Section 1-3A title outright.

Latrobe 1, Penn-Trafford 0 – Nolan Thomas scored the winning goal with less than four minutes left in regulation as Latrobe (8-9, 7-3) defeated Penn-Trafford (9-7, 6-4) in a battle for second place in Section 3-3A.

Ligonier Valley 7, East Allegheny 1 – Michael Vargulish-Graver led Ligonier Valley (3-13, 2-11) with a hat trick in a Section 3-2A victory over East Allegheny (1-14, 1-13).

Mars 2, Shaler 1 – Eli Stasiowski and Frank Knezovich scored to lead Mars (11-5-2, 9-1-2) to a Section 1-3A victory. Anthony Tylenda scored for Shaler (12-5, 8-4).

Moon 8 , Blackhawk 0 – Hayden Dunn had two goals and an assist, Eric Haupt collected a goal and three assists and Will Guarino and Rocco Reilsono combined on the shutout as Moon (11-5-1, 10-1-1) defeated Blackhawk (3-15, 1-11) in Section 4-3A to finish off its fourth straight section title. Laercio de Sousa, Charlie Weiler, Evan Anderson, Josias Valle and Gavin McConaghy also scored for the Tigers.

Mt. Lebanon 1, Pine-Richland 0 – Miko Perkovich scored the winning goal as Mt. Lebanon (12-4-2) picked up a nonsection win over Pine-Richland (5-10-2).

North Catholic 12, Valley 1 – Angelo Amelio and Arthur Mendonca each scored twice and Brody Kennedy had a goal and three assists as North Catholic (15-1-1, 13-1) clinched the Section 1-2A title with a win over Valley (0-15-1, 0-13-1). Austin English and Matthew Liscinsky each had a goal and an assist for the Trojans.

OLSH 9, South Side 0 – Brady Hernandez scored a hat trick to pace OLSH (15-0) in a nonsection win against South Side (2-13-1). Grant Griesacker, Finn McGarvey, Patrick Altmar, Dylan Lucchini, Wyatt Walsh and Hunter Smith each added a goal for the Chargers.

Peters Township 9, Brashear 2 – Anthony Maiello and Colin Froelich scored two goals apiece to lead Peters Township (13-0-1) to a nonsection win. Cole Celedonia, Jake Gawenus, Charlie Lulich, Keedan Kelly and Logan Richmond also scored for Peters.

Seton LaSalle 2, Elizabeth Forward 1 – Max Goob and Tyler Kovalcik scored as Seton LaSalle (15-3, 12-2) beat Elizabeth Forward (11-6, 10-4) in Section 3-2A. Aidan Davis scored for the Warriors.

Shady Side Academy 5, Highlands 2 – Mark Bence scored a hat trick while Beau Brush and PK Amos-Abanyie each knocked in a goal as Shady Side Academy (11-4-1, 10-3-1) defeated Highlands (8-7-1, 7-6-1) in Section 1-2A. Ryan Maloney scored two unassisted goals for the Golden Rams.

South Allegheny 4, Steel Valley 2 – Jacob Frum scored a brace and had an assist while Tyler Hernandez and Brayden Hernandez each tacked on a goal as South Allegheny (7-11, 5-9) defeated Steel Valley (4-13, 3-11) in Section 3-2A. Eli Noel had a pair of assists for the Gladiators.

Thomas Jefferson 11, McKeesport 0 – Owen Householder scored a hat trick to pace Thomas Jefferson (14-2-1, 11-2-1) in a Section 2-3A win over McKeesport (3-15, 1-13). Gavin Kern, Tyler Surrena, Cody O’Hare, Logan Barron, Noah Skalos, Caleb Bluemle, Carter Merrell and Robbie Minda each had a goal for the Jaguars.

Trinity 3, South Fayette 1 – Collin Reihner scored two goals and Cooper Cincinnati deposited another as Trinity (10-5-1, 10-3-1) bested South Fayette (5-11, 5-9) in Section 2-3A.

West Allegheny 6, Baldwin 1 – Aaron Bouch collected two goals and three assists while Harrison Muuray, Josh Bohley, Jensen Wolfe and Colton Yonker each scored a goal as West Allegheny (9-6, 8-4) beat Baldwin (3-13, 3-9) in Section 4-3A.

West Mifflin 4, Belle Vernon 1 – Wyatt Dyga, Zaim Sharafee, Cooper Hilligsberg and Greyson Black scored to lead West Mifflin (4-12-1, 3-7) to a Section 3-3A win. Jackson Pressel scored for Belle Vernon (7-10-1, 5-6)

Girls soccer

Chartiers-Houston 2, Trinity 1 – Grace Littlcott and Hailey Siege each scored a goal to lead Chartiers-Houston (8-5-2) to a nonsection win against Trinity (2-10-2). Cassidy Arthur scored for the HIllers.

Deer Lakes 2, North Hills 1 (OT) – Tessa Hollibaugh buried the golden goal off a feed from Cadence Drum to lift Deer Lakes (15-2) past North Hills (3-13-1) in nonsection play. Josie Buchanon scored the other goal for the Lancers.

Hempfield 1, Greensburg Salem 0 – Caitlyn Buehner found Jiana Patterson for the game-winning goal to give Hempfield (4-14, 2-8) the nonsection win over Greensburg Salem (6-12, 4-8).

Sewickley Academy 8, Bishop Canevin 1 – Claire Karsman scored a hat trick and Emma Eannarino added a brace as Sewickley Academy (15-1, 12-0) beat Bishop Canevin (2-10, 2-10) in Section 3-A. Olivia Stefanik, Jane Borstelmann and Sara Merryman each added a goal for the Panthers.

Shady Side Academy 8, Riverview 1 – Sarah Kushnir scored five goals to power Shady Side Academy (7-9) to a nonsection win. Mary Quinlan scored for Riverview (7-5-1).

Girls volleyball

Beaver 3, Ambridge 0 – Kailyn Connelly had 17 kills, Aubrey Bumblis produced 14 digs and Kayden Blinn had 29 assists as Beaver (16-1, 9-0) swept Ambridge (4-10, 3-6) in Section 4-3A.

Brownsville 3, Burgettstown 0 – Skyler Gates had 14 kills and Cyan Eilam followed with 10 kills as Brownsville (15-2, 11-2) beat Burgettstown (4-13, 2-11) 25-12, 25-7 and 25-10 in Section 3-2A.

Geibel Catholic 3, Calvary Chapel 0 – Nolace Petrosky had 18 digs and seven kills and Mallory Clemmer added 14 digs, 11 kills and eight aces as Geibel Catholic (4-14) swept Calvary Chapel in a nonsection match.

Hempfield 3, Plum 1 – Ella Berkebile had 14 kills, Lauren Howard added 19 digs and 10 kills while Jillian Sowers produced 24 digs and Preslee Horchak dished out 42 assists as Hempfield (11-3, 8-1) beat Plum (7-7, 2-7) in Section 3-4A.

Jefferson Morgan 3, Mapletown 1 – Kelsey Vessels had 26 digs and eight kills and Ava Wood finished with 20 digs and 11 kills to lead Jefferson-Morgan (6-8, 4-5) to a Section 3-A win over Mapletown (6-9, 4-5). Mia Bertagnolli dished out 27 assists, Emilee Bazzoli had 30 digs, Beautiful Medlen added 10 kills and Bailey Cervone contributed eight kills for the Rockets. Treslee Weston had 10 kills and 12 digs, Rowan Eisiminger added 11 kills and 10 digs, Marley Shiflett handed out 21 assists and Makenna Lotspeich finished with 19 digs for the Maples.

Mars 3, Knoch 1 – Rylee Wooldridge had 25 kills and 14 digs, Cecilia Christy added 16 kills, Alaina Graham had 15 digs and Gabi Weidemann recorded 51 assists and 16 digs as Mars (13-4, 8-1) defeated Knoch (6-9, 3-6) in Section 2-3A.

Mohawk 3, Riverside 2 – Reagan Magno had 16 kills and five blocks, Marli McBride added 13 kills and Emme Druschel contributed five kills and six blocks to lead Mohawk (12-4, 8-3) past Riverside (10-3, 8-3) in a clash between top teams in Section 4-2A. Sara Hampson finished with 14 digs, Macey Tanner dished out 17 assists and Riley Shaffer had 14 assists for the Warriors.

Montour 3, Chartiers Valley 2 – Annet Christian had 14 kills and three blocks, Zoe Woessner dished out 21 assists and Delaney Barto finished with 18 digs to lead Montour (5-9, 4-7) past Chartiers Valley (14-4, 8-4) in Section 1-3A. Sloane Cotten added 10 kills, Delaney Dzorenda had eight kills, Alina Vlasach contributed six kills and Cathrine Schmidt had 13 assists for the Spartans.

South Allegheny 3, South Park 2 – Regan McBeth had 15 kills, Ally Chizmar contributed 12 kills and four aces and Cadence McBride had four blocks and two kills to lead South Allegheny (14-4, 10-3) past South Park (13-3, 11-2) in a matchup of top teams in Section 2-2A.

Field hockey

Pine-Richland 5, North Allegheny 0 – Claire Mills buried three goals to lead Pine-Richland (14-3, 11-0) to a Class 3A shutout win over North Allegheny (4-6-3, 4-4-1).

Hockey

Cathedral Prep 5, Shaler 3 – Chris Bruschi had two goals and an assist and Brady Sack added a goal and an assist to help Cathedral Prep (1-1) to a Class 2A win. Blake Whiteman IV had a goal and an assist for Shaler (1-2).

Ringgold 8, Trinity 4 – Brady Lippert scored a hat trick and had an assist and Benito Pesi buried a pair of goals and added two assists to lead Ringgold (3-1) to a Division 2 win. Anthony Bonari, Nolan Gates and Landon Vaccaro each added a goal for the Rams. Seamus Coyle scored all four goals for Trinity (0-3).
