Penn Trafford scored twice in the first half to avenge their only Section-1 defeat of the season by defeating Hempfield 2-0 Monday.

The Warriors stuck first in the 19th minute, as Austin Kreutzberger found the net off of a feed from Joe Salesi.  Salesi pushed the ball ahead to Kreutzberger, who’s shot from 20-yards out found the inside of the far post behind Spartans goalkeeper Nate Burkhart.

Kreutzberger would find the net again in the 38th minute, this time on a great individual effort. Kreutzberger ball handled around two Hempfield defenders before getting Burkhart to commit, then tapped the ball into to open net behind the keeper.

Penn-Trafford was dominant in the opening half, outshooting Hempfield 5-1 while generating 9 scoring chances to the Spartans 2. The Warriors went into defend-mode in the 2nd half, limiting the Spartans to 1 shot  while using strong possession on offense to control the ball over the final 40 minutes.

With the win Penn-Traffford improved to 12-1-1 and 9-1-1 in Section-1.    The Warriors will face Norwin (12-3-0, 9-1-0) on Thursday in a match that will decide the section title.

Hempfield fell to 8-4-1 overall and 6-4-0 in section play.  They control their own playoff destiny, as Hempfield has matches left versus Connellsville and Latrobe, who both trail the Spartans in the standings.
