Hometown Girls Volleyball Recap – Central Valley Warriors – 09/30/2015

On a very rainy Monday evening, the Freedom Bulldogs and Central Valley Warriors girls volleyball teams faced off in a pivotal section matchup and decided to turn the heat up in Section 2-AA.  Central Valley entered this mid-season match in 2nd place in the section with a section record of 4-1 (6-1 overall). Freedom entered this match with a record of 3-2 (4-3 overall) good for the middle of the 2-AAA pack.  On this night, it was all Central Valley as they defeated Freedom in straight sets 25-9, 25-10, and 25-21.

The first set began fairly even as the closest that Freedom could get was 7-6. After that, it was all Warriors. Central Valley rattled off two big point streaks during the 1st set including a 9-0 run and later a 6-0 run.  CV received great play by their junior middles Kaleah Jones and Christina Kent that really set the tone for the rest of the match. Freedom was unable to recover from the long point streaks by the Warriors and CV took set #1 by the score of 25-9.

Both teams switched sides of the court for set #2 but, the result were very much the same as the opening set for Central Valley.  An 8-0 run for the Warriors in this set was the backbreaker for Freedom in this set. Unforced errors proved costly as CV cruised to 25-10 second set victory.

The final set of the match proved to be the closest and most competitive set of the entire night. After a valiant comeback effort by the Bulldogs of Freedom, they end up falling in set #3 25-21 and the match 3 sets to 0. The key to taking this set for Central Valley was another big 7-0 run.

With the victory, the Central Valley Warriors move to 5-1 in the section. Freedom falls to 3-3 in the section as we turn to the 2nd half of the 2015 WPIAL Girls Volleyball season. The Bulldogs will travel to Ambridge to take on the Bridgers on Thursday October 1st. Central Valley stays home to host Sto-Rox Thursday as well.
