The Brentwood Lady Spartans defeated East Allegheny Wednesday 8-1 in WPIAL Section 4 AA action Wednesday afternoon at Brentwood High School. The win moved the Lady Spartans to 2-1 in the section and 3-2 overall while EA dropped to 1-3 in the section and overall.

Brentwood managed to score 8 runs on only 3 hits off of EA pitcher Stephanie Fritzious, capitalizing on four Wildcats errors and aggressive base running to manufacture runs.

Fritzious struck out 9 and only walked 2 in the losing effort.  Alexis Wagner was the winning pitcher despite giving up 9 hits to EA, as she pitched her way out of bases loaded jams in the 3rd and 4th innings, and with the help of a great team defensive effort stranded 10 Lady Wildcat runners over 6 innings pitched.

Offensively catcher Sydney Bauer scored twice with a walk and a double and drove in a pair of run.  Taryn Sharry picked up the only other two Brentwood hits with a double and a single and also drove in a run a scored a run.

The Lady Spartans scored one in the first, 4 in the 2nd, and 3 in the 5th for their 8 runs.

East Allegheny’s lone run was scored by pitcher Stephanie Fritzious who singled and then scored on a single by Shiane Betz.  Fritzious, Betz, and leftfielder Ciara Clifton each had two hits apiece for the game.  Errors proved to be EA’s undoing as Fritzious only gave up one earned run in the game.

Brentwood will take on Steel Valley Thursday in a key section 4 game.
