Sarah Turek pitched a complete game, four-hit shutout and went 3-for-3 with an RBI at the plate, leading Elizabeth Forward (4-1, 1-0) to a 5-0 win over rival West Mifflin (4-3, 0-2) on Wednesday in Forward Township.

Turek, a senior and Muskingum University recruit, struck out four Titans batters and retired the final 13 batters she faced. Hitting ninth in the order, Turkek formed a nice 1-2 punch with freshman leadoff hitter Taylor Ludwick, who crushed a third inning home run and drove in another run with a double in the sixth inning.

A costly second inning error would lead to the Warriors’ first two runs. After Carlow recruit Ashley Hoak started the inning with a single, a two-out error by West Mifflin shortstop Tiana Sekowski would allow Hoak to score. Two batters later, Turek would drive in Lauren Mathews, making it 2-0.

Taylor Ludwick’s blast over the left-center field fence to lead off the bottom of the third would extend Elizabeth Forward’s lead to 3-0.

A walk taken by Kaylee Ludwick with the bases loaded in the fifth inning would push the game to 4-0 and Taylor Ludwik’s two-out double to the left field gap would cap the scoring at 5-0.

Amber Cook, a Point Park recruit, was tagged with the loss for the Titans. One of just two seniors for West Mifflin, Cook surrendered 3 runs on four hits in four innings of work. Only one of her allowed runs was earned. Savannah Simm pitched two innings of relief for the Titans, allowing two earned runs on four hits. Four different Titans players had base hits.

West Mifflin will return home to face McKeesport on Friday, while Elizabeth Forward will next meet Thomas Jefferson on Saturday.
