The Chartiers-Houston softball team seems to have its matters in order as it works its way to the postseason.
Momentum – check. The Buccaneers won their 12th straight game with a 10-0 win over Mapletown in a Section 1-A contest Tuesday at Allison Park Elementary School during a game played amidst extremely high winds. The win improved Chartiers-Houston to 12-1, 7-0 in the section.
Offense – check. The Buccaneers (who average 10 runs a game) scored in double figures for the fifth straight game, rapping out 13 hits in the victory. Each member of the starting nine in the batting order had at least one hit.
Catcher Casey Craig paced the offensive attack with an inside-the-park two-run home run and a single. Kassie Kesneck added two hits and four RBIs. Kayla Anderson chipped in with a single and a double, as did Kayla Elliott and Sabrina Stankus. Megan Kraushaar added two singles.
Pitching – check. Freshman Kaitlyn Dittrich scattered six singles in a shutout performance, the fourth in six games for the Buccaneers. The Maples had more than one runner on base in only one inning, the fourth. In that frame, Mapletown had three straight singles, but did not score as Kesneck gunned down Amelia Foreman at home as she tried to score from second on a single.
Team unity – check, check, check. Craig said the Buccaneers – a senior-laden squad – are like family.
“We try to make sure our team is as close as possible,” said the senior catcher. “All these girls will tell you that every girl on the team is like a sister to them. That’s really important to us. It’s always been important. Ever since I was a freshman I’ve always felt like it was a big family.”
