Penn State already had a commitment from one talented Imani Christian defensive back, and now the Nittany Lions have another.
Junior cornerback Gabriel Jenkins announced his commitment to Penn State on Monday, joining teammate David Davis, a senior who committed there in March. Another former Imani Christian standout, linebacker Dayshaun Burnett, is a freshman at Penn State.
They were all four-star prospects, but Jenkins is arguably the top recruit of the three.
The 6-foot-2, 182-pound cornerback is ranked by college recruiting outlets as one of the top juniors in the country. Website 247Sports.com rated Jenkins as the 10th best cornerback nationally in the 2027 class. He was ranked 60th overall among recruits at all positions nationally and was the third-best prospect in Pennsylvania’s junior class.
He received close to two dozen college offers. In addition to Penn State, his list included Power 4 schools Pitt, West Virginia, Baylor, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan State, Nebraska, North Carolina, SMU and Syracuse.
Allegheny 7 coaches voted Jenkins as a first-team all-conference player in Class 3A at both defensive back and running back.
As a corner, he intercepted five passes, forced two fumbles and made 31 tackles. On offense, he rushed for 1,283 yards and scored 18 touchdowns.
