Kymon’e Brown’s last high school football game might have been his best.

Brown’s performance against eventual WPIAL and PIAA Class A champion Clairton won’t soon be forgotten.

Jeannette had Clairton on the ropes in the WPIAL quarterfinals, and Brown was the reason. The Bears held off the Jayhawks, winning 38-33. The Bears had not allowed a point in the previous 10 games.

Brown completed 13 of 29 passes for 232 yards and three touchdowns and rushed for 116 yards and a score.

“I have watched the game three times since we played,” Brown said. “We had them. We made a special teams mistake and a couple others. It is a game I will always remember.”

Brown finished his senior season completing 99 of 212 passes for 1,822 yards and 19 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,116 yards and 17 touchdowns.

Those numbers were good enough to earn his second TribLive Westmoreland County Player of the Year award. He beat out a couple of other top athletes from the county: Norwin senior quarterback Tristyn Tavares, Hempfield senior quarterback Dom Detruf and Greensburg Central Catholic senior athlete Samir Crosby.

“Kymon’e was a gamer,” Jeannette coach Tommy Paulone said. “He saved his best for the field. He also made plays on defense. He has a good IQ.

“His best game statistically was probably against Frazier when we scored 61 points, but the Clairton game is his most memorable one. He controlled the tempo of the game. He was the best player of the field.”

Paulone said following the game, more colleges started recruiting him. He heard from some Division I coaches after the Clairton game.

“Navy has offered him, and Duquesne is close,” Paulone said. “IUP, California and Gannon have also offered. We won’t be able to replace him; he is that special.”

Brown said the recruiting has picked up since the Clairton game.

“It is special that people thought so highly of me,” said Brown about receiving the honor for the second consecutive year. “It shows all the hard work I put in during the offseason.”

Paulone said Brown became a better player throughout the season.

“He saw the field much better on both sides of the ball,” Paulone said. “He was a compete player and a leader.”

Brown had similar statistics during his junior season when he also won the award.

He completed 95 of 184 passes for 1,844 yards and 25 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,257 yards and 15 scores on 159 attempts. He also returned a punt for a score.

As a senior, Brown also recorded 40 tackles, 32 solo, and two interceptions, defended six passes and returned a punt for a score.
