Knoch boys basketball coach steps down after state playoff season

Knoch boys basketball coach Alan Bauman has resigned after leading the Knights to the state playoffs this winter.

“It’s a decision we thought was the best thing for both our family and Knoch basketball,” said Bauman, who coached the team for five seasons. “I enjoyed my time there greatly. The kids were awesome. (School administrators) Josh Shoop and Kurt Reiser and Todd Trofimuk were great. Just through conversations, we decided it was best for our family.”

Knoch finished 19-8 overall this past season, reaching the WPIAL Class 4A quarterfinals and the first round of the state playoffs. The team went 55-60 combined in Bauman’s five seasons, including 34-19 over the past two.

The Knights made the playoffs four times.

“Coach Bauman brought team success to the Knoch basketball program, and we wish him well,” said Shoop, the school’s athletic director. “We have a great group of kids in our program, and my goal is to find the best leader for them and keep building on the success.”
