Sharp-shooting senior basketball player Elle Snyder of Latrobe announced Saturday a verbal commitment to NCAA Division I Evansville.
Snyder, a 5-foot-9 guard, is Latrobe’s leading scorer (18.5 points per game) and rebounder (12.3). She had a 36-point game earlier this season and has produced eight double-doubles.
She plays AAU basketball for the Western PA Bruins, an organization known for producing and promoting Division I prospects.
“I went to a lot of elite camps over the summer, and when I went to Evansville, it just felt right,” Snyder said. “Coach Robyn Scherr-Wells is so positive, and the entire coaching staff was so welcoming, along with the players that I was able to meet.”
Snyder said she was first told by coaches she was a Division I prospect when she was a freshman.
“Before my 11th-grade season I talked with my AAU coach and the executive director of the organization, and they both believed that I was a D-I player, so that really gave me the confidence to push for Division I.”
Last season, Snyder made a team-record 10 3-pointers against Connellsville.
She is nearing 900 career points.
