Latrobe, Hempfield East Legion teams stay unbeaten at regions

Latrobe and Hempfield East finished 1-2 during the District 31 American regular season.

Now they will square off in the winners’ bracket of the Region 7 tournament Monday at Forest Hills High School in Sidman. Game time is set for 5 p.m.

Mason Hrubes had three hits (single, double and triple) and three RBIs to carry Latrobe to a 14-2 victory against Lower Burrell.

The Jethawks scored eight runs in the fifth inning to invoke the 10-run rule.

Colt Short and Ty Smith each hit doubles for Latrobe. Smith and Cayden McCune each had two hits.

Noah Matson had a two-run double for Lower Burrell.

Hempfield East rallied from an early 5-1 deficit to defeat Bushy Run, 6-5, in nine innings.

Luke Demchak, who walked to open the ninth inning, scored on Ty Martin’s fielder’s choice.

East tied the score in the sixth inning when Josh Cayer scored on an error.

Jon Lovre drove in three runs and had two hits for Bushy Run.

Dom Rosensteel, Demchak, Colin Polechko and Tyler Davis each had two hits for East.

Lower Burrell faces Claysburg at 11 a.m., and Bushy Run meets Philipsburg at 2 p.m.

Philipsburg used a 10-run fourth inning to eliminate Bedford, 16-3, and Claysburg ended St. Michael’s season, 11-2.
