Moon Tigers Hometown Volleyball Broadcast Recap – 10/13/2016

At Moon high school in Hometown Volleyball action the Moon Tigers beat their section Rival the Canon McMillan Big Macs three sets to one to win their first section match of the year Thursday evening.

In the first set it was back and forth and more of a defensive game. Both teams scored off of each other’s mistakes. Neither team could get their offense working. It was tied 13 times, and no team led by more than 3 until the Big Macs led 20-17.  The Moon back court of Libero Raquel Richards and Ashley Sleva both seniors led the way for the Tigers. Moon would come on strong at the end scoring 9 of the last 13 points to win 26-24 to go up 1-0.

In game two Moon fell fat and trailed 6-0 early. Canon Mac took advantage of numerous Tiger errors and led throughout. Though Moon played well at the end scoring 6 of the last 9 points they still lost 25-19 and the match was tied 1-1.

Moon may have had its best two games of the year in set three and four. In each they took the lead early and held on. In game three after being tied 7-7 they pulled away out scoring the Big Macs 18-8 and their offense clicked. The front line of senior Bella Montanaro, senior Maddy Schultz, and freshman Sanaea Simmons was dominant on both offense and defense. Game two was 25-15 Moon as they went up 2 sets to 1.
Game four was a continuation of game three as Moon only trailed 1-0. After tying it at 1-1 they never trailed. Though the Big Macs would close to within two points at 12-10, the Tigers would out score them 13-6 the rest of the way to win 25-16 to win three sets to one and win the match.

Simmons led Moon with 13 kills, Montanaro had 12 plus three aces. Shultz had 8 kills and Andrianna Cycak 7 kills to lead the Tiger offense. Moon which has slowly gotten better as the year has progressed under first year head coach Sarah Durham finally saw their hard work pay off. All the girls feel like they are a family and have played together for years. Winning tonite justified the hard work and brighter days are ahead for the Tigers. There  is talent in the younger grades and the future is bright. The Tigers improve to 1-10 in section play while Canon Mac falls to 1-9.
