If you attend a Franklin Regional football practice this fall, you will not see senior Matt Moore running around and getting into his teammates’ faces to encourage or fire them up.
You will see a football player being a leader by acting as another coach and demonstrating the proper way to play the game.
Franklin Regional coach Lance Getsy said Moore is not a vocal leader but a leader by example, and that is what makes him so special.
“He is like another coach,” Getsy said. “He has the willingness to try to do better every play. He’s always asking questions and is listening to his coaches. He is a smart kid. He helps teach his teammates.”
Moore is a 5-foot-11, 165-pound safety/wide receiver who calls himself a defensive-minded player. He is a guy who loves to compete.
“I definitely like to hit people,” Moore said. “I love team aspect of the game. It is all about teamwork and never about an individual.
“Last year, I played wing back and H-back on offense. I expect to be more a part of the offense this year playing wide receiver.”
He caught one pass for six yards in 2025. He likes the competition at quarterback betweeen Dom Devola and Tyler Pechar.
Getsy said Moore will play anywhere on offense: fullback, H-back or wide receiver.
“We need him to make more splash plays on defense,” Getsy said. “He is a team player. We need him to be consistent and build on last year’s success.”
He had 67 tackles (7 solo), including three tackles for losses. He also had two interceptions and knocked down eight passes.
Getsy sees Moore developing into a player in the mold of Caden Smith or Austin Kerns
Moore said this year’s team can be just as good or better than last year’s team.
“We all have a lot of belief,” Moore said. “We have a lot of talent who did not get to see the field last year.
“I like our work effort. We must continue to work and get better. We have to listen to the coaches and focus all the time.”
Moore went to a couple of camps to work on his skills, especially his route running. He hopes what he learned will translate to the practice field and games.
Getsy said he is confident Moore will do that.
