BOYS AAAA- PITTSBURGH CENTRAL CATHOLIC VIKINGS vs GATEWAY GATORS

GATORS REPEAT !!   Final score   49-39. Central out scores them 17-8 in the 4th quarter but its not enough. The Gateway Gators are your 2012 WPIAL AAAA champion.

Harris at the line again, he hits 2-2  and its 49-37. Both coaches empty the bench as the starters leave to applause.

Central with a basket but forced to foul Harris makes two free throws and its 47-37 Gators with 16.9 left in the game. Looks lilke a repeat for Gateway.

Central misses opportunities, Gateway knocks the ball out of bounds 2 times, the Vikings miss three straight threes. Again forced to foul. The Gators make 1 of 2 at the line after Lincoln Davis foul. Davis fouls out for Central with only 8 points.

Central forced to foul and and DJ Boyce to the line and he hits 1 of 2. Gateway by 9 44-35

After a time out Lincoln Davis hits a lay up and the lead is only 8. 43-35 Gateway.

Gators miss another free throw,  but again the Vikings can not beat Gateways defense. Its another low scoring AAAA game.  With 1:22  left in the 4th its still 43-33 Gateway

Gators with two more tunrovers, but the Vikings can not score either time. Its still 43-33 with 1:45 left.

Gators at the free throw line Kochka misses the front end of a 1 and 1, again Central cant take advantage as they turn it over. Gateway ball with 2:39 to go.

Gators take time off the clock but miss an easy layup, Central cant take advantage, its still 43-33. 2:53 left.

The Vikings have outscored Gateway  11-2 so far in the 4th quarter. Offense finnall on track for coach Crummies squad.

Gateway with two straight turnovers, and Davis comes down for a lay up for Central. They have cut a 19 point deficit to 10. Score is 43-33 with 3:53 left. Central.

Vikings 14 points down with 6:00 to go in the 4th, Gateway killing time playing keep away, but they turn it over. Viking ball and Mike Anselmo hits from 8 feet and the lead has been cut to 12. 43-31 Gators with 4:57 left.

Central wont go away quietly, they are on a 6-0 run and have cut the lead to 41-28. Can they do it ??

4th quarter starts with the Gator student section chanting “back to back”  on their way to repeating as WPIAL AAAA champs.

Gator Fans chant “this is boring” as Central cant get the offense rolling. At the end of the 3rd quarter its 41-22 Gateway with a commanding lead.

Tyler Scott brings down the house with a slam dunk Gateway by 19 now 39-20 with :51 to go 3rd quarter

Teams trade hoops, with 2:55 left in the 3rd its 37-16 Gators. Central is in trouble

Central ends a 14-0 Gator run with a bucket and its 33-16.

Gators start strong 5-0 run to start the 3rd and its 33-14

Gators out score the Vikings 16-3 in the second quarter.

Gateway time out and at the buzzer DJ Boyce hits and the Gators go into the intermission leading 28-14.

Central turnover and  Gators transition for another basket.  Its 26-14. Gators threatening to run away with it. 1:57 left in the half.

Gators with a bucket and two free throws and the ead increases to 8, its 22-14 Gators with 3:39 left in the half.

David Urso  with a layup for Central  and its 19-13 Gators. Defense has picked up as neither team’s offense can get going.

Central cant hit a shot and its Gator all again with an 8 point lead.

Another Kromka layup and Central calls time out with  6:20 left, Gators 7-0 run and its 19-11 Gateway

Gateway two quick buckets, Kromka layup and Tyler Scott three pointer its 17-11 Gators

An even quarter, a good game so far. Should go down to the wire in this AAAA contest

Both teams miss opportunities at the end of the quarter, but with 2 seconds left  Claude Scott makes an easy  lay up  and the quarter ends 12-11 Gateway.

GIRLS AAA- #1 HOPEWELL vs #2 SOUTH PARK

ITS OVER Hopewell wins it 50-34. Kimbrough finishes with 35 points !!

Looks bad for the Eagles, both teams take out starters and get the young kids some time Vikings on the way to GOLD

South Park forced to foul down 10, but the Eagles  turn over the ball. Vikings cant be stopped   they lead 48-34

Hopewell leads 44-32  with 2:13 to go..

Kimbrough at the line  2-2 again  shes at 35 points. A dominant performance…

Kimbrough at the line, South Park’s Shelby Lindsay just fouled out.   Kimbrough 2-2  she has 33 points

Kimbrough hits 2 from the line to put the Vikes up 40-32. Shes at 31 points

Memories of 2001 AAA Girls championship as Blackhawk and West Mifflin played an epic contest in which Kenisha Wright for the Titans put up 50 in the loss. Kimbrough has 30 of her teams 38 tonite.

Teams trade threes, Zandier for the Eagles, Kimbrogh for Hopewell  its 36-32 Vikings with 4:37 left

Jahrin Gill hits 1-2 from the line Vikings 33-29  5:43 left in the fourth..

Its all defense right now. 6:45 left in the 4th. Hopewell at the line…KARI Steuer hits both and its 32-29 Vikings

Its 30-29 Hopewell at the end of the 3rd. Kimbrough has 27 for the Vikings. She cant be stopped

Cassidy Rizzo hits 2 free throws for the Vikings, but Mikelonis from THREE !!! for South Park and its 30-29 Hopewell

KImbrough is carrying the Vikings !!!  Another three and its 28-24, Hopewell…She has 27 points !!

Carley Zandier of South Park with the dipsy do and its 23-22, but Kimbrough is on fire and hits a three its 26-22 Hopewell

South Park hits a free throw but Kimbrough hits another bucket, she has 21 and its 23-20 with 5:03 to go in the 3rd

Second half underway the Eagles turn the ball over, but the Vikings cant capitalize, still 21-19 with 6:52 left in the 3rd

Leading scorers.For Hopewell its Shatori Walker-Kimbrough with 19 of her teams 21 points, and for South Park Ashley Mikelonis has 10. Shes three of five from the three point line.

South Park cant hit a shot, great Hopewell defense, Vikings up 17-9

Beaver Falls 46 – Monessen 27 – Final

Monessen is now (23-3). Beaver Falls is at (24-2). Those two teams are #1 & #2 from the WPIAL for the State Playoff Tournament which starts next weekend for these teams.

Final Score – Beaver Falls 46 – Monessen 27 – Tigers outscore Greyhounds 26-9 in second half to celebrate their first championship since 2005. Sheldon Jeter scores 19 points and grabs 12 rebounds in the victory.

2:14 remaining – Monessen is still cold from the field – Beaver Falls is beginning to milk some clock – Beaver Falls 46 – Monessen 27.

Jeter – Block – Rebound and 2 off the window on the break – The big man is takin’ over – Tigers by 22 points.

Timeout Tigers – 5:47 left in 4th Quarter – Beaver Falls 41 – Monessen 24.

Sheldon Jeter hits a three and now has a game high 15 points. 6:32 left – Beaver Falls leads 39-24.

Huge 3rd Quarter for BF – Tigers outscore Monessen 14-6 – End 3 – Beaver Falls 34 – Monessen 24. Hounds need a big 4th to capture their second straight Boys AA crown.

The run is now 14-0 – Timeout Greyhounds – Beaver Falls 34 – Monessen 20 – 1:25 left 3rd Quarter.

Good defense leads to poor shooting…I guess…….combined field goals in the first half – 13-for-59.

Jaisen Irwin scores last 4 points for Monessen – he has half of their 18 points. At the half – Beaver Falls 20 – Monessen 18.

1:00 – Low scoring affair – defense has been the thing so far – Tigers and Hounds are getting at it on D – Beaver Falls 20 – Monessen 16.

The man-to-man defense by both teams is tight in this one. Monster block by Beaver Falls Royce Watson gets the pre-requisite “roar” from both Watson and the BF crowd – 4:00 left before halftime – Tigers lead 16-13.

:49 into 2nd Quarter – Sheldon Jeter hits a pair of free throws for Beaver Falls – his first points of the game. Tigers lead 14-9.

First Quarter is done – Beaver Falls 10 – Monessen 9.

1:00 left in 1st Quarter – Back and forth game – Tied at 9-9.

Monessen 4 – Beaver Falls 3 – Earl Pinkney throws down a dunk for the Greyhounds. Great crowd on hand for this contest.

Monessen (23-2) – Beaver Falls (23-2) – add it up = 46 Wins & just 4 Losses. Tigers have won 10 straight. The Greyhounds have not lost to a AA school this season.

Vincentian 54 – North Catholic 50 – Final

Vincentian head onto the Path to Penn State. The Trojanettes are the # 2 team from District 7 and are (20-6). Vincentian is (25-1) and are the top team from the WPIAL. Stay tuned. Boys AA comes at you next – # 1 Monessen takes on # 2 Beaver Falls. Back in a bit.

Vincentian wins their 6th WPIAL title 54-50. Laura Primyon had 1 point through three quarters – she hits 4 three-pointers in the 4th Quarter to finish with 13 points.

Trojanettes turn it over. 10.1 left. Noreen Fischer at the line for Vincentian. She makes both – 54-50 Royals.

Timeout – Trojanettes – Vincentian 52 – North Catholic 50. North Catholic possession.

55.9 remaining – Abbey Bartoszewicz makes one of two free throws – Royals take their FIRST lead of the game 51-50.

Noreen Fischer misses an and one – Primyon drains a trey – we are tied at 50 apiece.

2:14 to go – North Catholic leads 50-43. Vincentian uses its final timeout.

Primyon for three – she has 10 points. Trojanettes by 5 with 3:15 to go.

Laura Primyon hits back-to-back three’s for Vicentian. Lauren Wolosik answers for North Catholic with her 20th point. Timeout – 4:35 left – North Catholic 48 – Vincentian 40.

Lauren Wolosik steal and a sweet coast to coast finish with a behind the back dribble. North Catholic 40-34 with 6:45 left.

The Royals won the WPIAL Class A Championship in 2010. They’ll have to come from behind to capture the 2012 title. End of 3 – North Catholic 38 Vincentian 32. North Catholic is 8:00 away from it’s 2nd Straight Class A crown.

Timeout Vincentian – 2:07 remaining in the 3rd quarter – Wolosik & Mueller key a 5-0 spurt for North Catholic. Mueller has 8 points and Wolisik a game high 14. Trojanettes lead 35-26.

Fifth time in the past 6 years that North Catholic is playing for the WPIAL title at Palumbo. The Trojanettes won titles in 2007 & 2009 & 2011. North Catholic leads 30-23 with 3:00 left in the 3rd quarter.

10-0 run for Trojanettes – 5:29 left 3rd Quarter – NC leads 28-20.

Lynzi Mueller hits her second three-pointer of the game as the 3rd Quarter begins. North Catholic leads 26-20 – 6:37 left in 3rd.

North Catholic closes the quarter on a 5-0 run to take a 23-18 lead into halftime. Lauren Wolosik has 7 points for North Catholic to lead all scorers. Noreen Fischer has 6 points for Vincentian.

3:38 Left – Tied at 18. These two schools split their season series. NC handed Vincentian its only loss on February 9th 45-42. Vincentian beat North Catholic 57-51 in January. 2:00 left before halftime – Trojanettes have a 20-18 lead.

Halfway through 2nd – Royals – who trailed by 11 points – have tied the game at 18 all.

The Royals have hit three treys in the first half to just one for North Catholic. Trojanettes lead 18-13 with 5:22 left in the 2nd Quarter.

Vincentian freshman Brenna Wise – who has missed time with a sprained ankle – is playing for the Royals. Wise has 1 point. North Catholic leads 18-10 a minute into the 2nd quarter.

These two schools have combined for 21 WPIAL Championships – 16 for North Catholic & 5 for the Royals.

End of First Quarter – Vincentian closes on a 7-2 run as NC turns the ball over 6 times. North Catholic 14 – Vincentian 9.

4:11 1st Quarter – 8-2 Trojanettes – The Royals are having problems with the North Catholic press. Coach Ron Moncrief has already used 2 timeouts.

2 1/2 minutes into the Girls Class A title tilt – North Catholic out to an early 6-2 lead over Vincentian.
