Mt. Lebanon, Sewickley Academy draw top seeds in WPIAL girls team tennis brackets

Mt. Lebanon in Class AAA and Sewickley Academy in AA drew top seeds in the WPIAL girls team tennis brackets revealed Tuesday.
Mt. Lebanon tops the big-school field with Shady Side Academy seeded second in a tournament that starts Wednesday. The Class AAA first-round matches pair Mars at Fox Chapel, Oakland Catholic at Upper St. Clair, Franklin Regional at North Allegheny, Baldwin at Moon, Hempfield at Peters Township and Pine-Richland at Latrobe.
There are two preliminary-round matches Wednesday. Norwin plays South Fayette at Hempfield with the winner facing Mt. Lebanon on Thursday. In the other, West Allegheny faces Chartiers Valley at Bethel Park with that winner visiting Shady Side Academy on Thursday.
North Allegheny is the defending WPIAL Class AAA champion.
In Class AA, Knoch earned the second seed behind defending champion Sewickley Academy. Those two teams met in last year’s WPIAL final.
In first-round matches Thursday, Southmoreland visits Sewickley Academy, Ellis visits Blackhawk, Neshannock visits Derry, North Catholic visits Greensburg Salem, Mt. Pleasant visits Beaver, Avella visits Greensburg Central Catholic, Winchester Thurston visits Quaker Valley and Vincentian Academy visits Knoch.
All matches start at 3 p.m.
Quarterfinal matches for both classifications are Monday.
