Her first shot at the recruiting game hit the post. The second one, however, she slotted home.

Mt. Pleasant rising senior soccer standout Morgan Gesinski announced a verbal commitment to Robert Morris on Thursday, about six months after she decommitted from Mercyhurst because of a coaching change.

Gesinski, an all-state forward who had 36 goals to lead the WPIAL last regular season, also considered Duquesne, Youngstown State and Case Western.

A shuffling of coaches is what made her change her mind.

Rich Wall was the head coach at Mercyhurst but left to take the same job at Youngstown State. His assistant, Kayla McNamara, left to coach at Robert Morris.

Making her commitment before her final prep season was the plan all along.

Gesinski said the scholarship to RMU is in line with the one she had at Mercyhurst.

“It feels good,” Gesinski said. “I can now just focus on a good high school season and just playing and having fun.”

Robert Morris is closer to home so family and friends can watch her play at the next level.

“It was the academics, the coaches, the campus,” Gesinski said of the reasons she chose RMU. “And just the atmosphere of the girls on the team.”

Gesinski is nearing a career milestone. She is three away from 100 career goals.
