Player of the year
Morgan Gesinski
Sr., Forward, Mt. Pleasant
Goal-scoring prowess can be tough to sustain over one or two high school seasons.
Mt. Pleasant senior Morgan Gesinski did it for four.
A threat to find the back of the net since she broke onto the scene as a freshman, Gesinski is the TribLive Westmoreland Girls Soccer Player of the Year.
Annalyse Bauer of Latrobe and Allyssa Velasquez and Addison Ayres of Franklin Regional were considered.
“You have to put forth maximum effort at all times to achieve your goals,” Gesinski said.
An All-WPIAL and all-state player for the Vikings, Gesinski scored 30 goals and passed out 11 assists as Mt. Pleasant reached the WPIAL Class 2A semifinals.
“She has had a tremendous impact and not just from a scoring standpoint but also from a leadership perspective,” Mt. Pleasant coach Rich Garland said.
“This year, she was a much more vocal leader and teammate. She will be missed.”
With Gesinski in the lineup during her career, Mt. Pleasant was 67-13-2.
She finished with 127 goals, second in program history, and 48 assists.
Her mark on team history has been left. What will fans remember most about her impact?
“Four consecutive section championships and the amazing success the senior class had,” Gesinski said.
The standout said she would make a few tweaks if she could go back in time.
“I would change how much work I put in over the summer,” she said, “and would have done more. And I would change how my focus was.”
