North Hills senior Noah Bostick captured a bronze medal as a sophomore and at last year’s competition he took home the silver with a score of 496.65. Consider the progression complete for Bostick as he captured the WPIAL Class AAA gold medal by posting a score of 506.85 at North Allegheny High School.

Bostick was solid throughout all three rounds of the meet. After going back and forth with Penn-Trafford sophomore Joey Ference heading into the final round of three dives, Bostick took control with his first final dive and finished 52.10 points ahead of the second place finisher, Andrew Doerfler of North Allegheny.

Ference was in line to capture the silver medal but had a failed dive on his next to last attempt which allowed Doerfler to move into second place. Doerfler, making his second
straight appearance in the diving finals, finished 7th last year as a sophomore and scored 454.75 in this year’s meet. Ference, 11th as a freshman, finished with a score of 403.20.

The top 6 finishers in the finals will represent the WPIAL in the state championships. Junior Cary Johns from Mt. Lebanon (400.10), senior Addison Lynch from Fox Chapel (398.95) and sophomore Andrew Sederholm from Franklin Regional (379.10) will join the medalists to compete at Bucknell University on Wednesday March 12th in the PIAA Boys AAA state diving championships.

Chartiers Valleys’ Maria Lohman won her third overall gold medal, 2nd in AAA girls diving (she won gold her Freshman year in AA) today in the diving championship. Lohman who finished with a personal best score of 540.15 led the entire meet. After the preliminary round she led by 60.85 points then expanded her lead after the Semi-Final to 87.10 points. The final round was really only a formality and Lohman made it count with her final three dives beating the 2nd place finisher, Miranda Simon of Fox Chapel 126.05 points. Simon a talented diver in her own right finished with an impressive 414.10 a very high score for any meet so that should show you how well Lohman performed. The top six finishers go on to states from the meet and they were Lohman(540.15), Simon(414.10), Julia Vespoli(407.10) of hosting North Allegheny, Emily Eames(380.10) of Fox Chapel, Brionna Litwin(378.50) of Bethel Park, Kalli Bickett(369.90) of Mt. Lebanon. The aforementioned Litwin completed the McDonalds Dive of the Meet on her final dive with a back one and a half summer-sault with a half twist with free entry and a 2.1 difficulty. She did that dive with her state hopes on the line and by the judges standards nailed it to move on to Bucknell and the PIAA Championships.
