After one of the biggest program wins in decades, Charleroi has to wait a day to produce its encore performance.

Led by Trib HSSN player of the week Geno Pellegrini, the Cougars will visit Riverview in a Class 2A vs. Class A nonconference game in Oakmont at noon Saturday.

Pellegrini completed 11 of 17 passes for 208 yards and five touchdowns and also rushed for 119 yards and two more scores last week as Charleroi ended Washington’s 39-game regular season winning streak with a 64-33 win in the 2A Century Conference opener.

The Cougars face a Riverview team that is still in search of their first points of the season after losing 35-0 to Greensburg Central Catholic in a Eastern Conference contest last week.

Also on Saturday in WPIAL football, Western Beaver hosts Shenango in a 2A Midwestern Conference game while Our Lady of the Sacred Heart faces Northgate in a Class A Big 7 Conference tilt.

South Hills soccer showdown

Last year, three teams finished within a half-game of each other at the top of Section 2-4A in WPIAL girls soccer.

Peters Township and Mt. Lebanon finished as co-champs with section records of 7-3, while Upper St. Clair ended up 6-3-1.

The first meeting between the three elite programs is Saturday afternoon when Peters Township visits Upper St. Clair.

Both teams are 1-0 in the section, with the Indians 3-0 overall and the Panthers 1-0 overall.

Red, White and Blue Race

Cooler temperatures will be a welcome relief for runners at the 16th annual Red, White and Blue Classic at Schenley Park.

Sixty-eight WPIAL schools will be represented at the annual event Saturday at the Schenley Oval.

The defending champions are Mt. Lebanon (3A), Grove City (2A) and Winchester Thurston (A) on the boys side and Fox Chapel (3A), Greensburg Salem (2A) and Vincentian Academy (A) for the girls.
