North Allegheny, North Hills athletes earn postseason honors

North Allegheny and North Hills athletes were well-represented on postseason awards lists for fall sports seasons. Here's a look at some of the honors:

Field hockey

North Allegheny's Olivia Scherrer was picked to the All-WPIAL team in Class AAA, and Trystan Laughrey was honorable mention.

Trystan Laughrey, Sherrer and Bridget Russell were all-Section 1 selections.

Girls volleyball

Three North Allegheny volleyball players were named to the Class AAAA All-WPIAL first team — senior libero Erin Carmody, senior middle hitter Kayla Dinkins and sophomore setter Abby Miller, North Allegheny.

All three were first-team all-section selections. Mika Logan, Paige Miller and Anna Sprys were on the second team and Allena Carmody and Avery Tuman were honorable mentions.

NA coach Heidi Miller was the Coach of the Year for Section 1-AAAA.

North Hills libero Rachel Blakely and Meghan Dominek were second-team picks.

Boys soccer

In boys soccer, forward Josh Luchini, midfielders Sean Atwater and Sam Buirge, defender Nick Williams and keeper Grant Glorioso represented North Allegheny on the All-Section 1-AAAA first team. Forward Cam Yurick and defender Ethan Schenk were second-team selections, and midfielders Luke Stephen, Josh Rouser and Zac Marzula and defender Sam Neal were honorable mentions.

North Hills was represented by midfielder Noah Maxwell as an honorable mention.

Girls soccer

North Allegheny had three girls soccer players earn first-team all-section recognition — forwards Alex Adams and Emma Bundy and midfielder Ava Ruppersberger. Midfielder Morgan Anderson was named to the second team, and defender Caroline Wood was an honorable mention pick.

For North Hills, midfielder Patty Eshenbaugh was a second-team honoree, and forward Olivia Yoder was honorable mention.

Football

Earning Class 6A All-Northern Seven Conference first-team laurels for North Allegheny were senior offensive tackle Derek Devine, senior tight end Sam Humes, senior running back Turner White, senior defensive tackle Dylan Wall and senior defensive back Joey Porter Jr. Senior wide receiver John Varzdel, senior defensive end Brennan McCauley, junior linebacker Dante Caputo, junior defensive back Nikko Rankin and senior kicker Dom Falo were second-team selections. Senior center Ian Truesdell, junior offensive tackle Canyon Tuman, senior quarterback Luke Trueman, senior running back Ryan Langdon, senior linebacker Alex Hayes and junior defensive back Corey Melzer were honorable mention selections.

In the Class 5A Allegheny Nine Conference, North Hills was represented on the first team by senior offensive tackle Jason Heinauer, senior running back Melvin Blanks and senior linebacker Jeff Gillespie. Senior John Hodnik, junior defensive tackle Lirion Murtezi, senior linebacker Alex Glatz and junior defensive back Tyler Brennan were second-team picks, and senior center Matt McCarten, junior guards Jason Biswick and Trevor Hartman and sophomore defensive end Damon Thompson were honorable mentions.
