North Allegheny notebook: NA water polo shines at host tournament

North Allegheny’s boys water polo team finished 4-0 at its host tournament Sept. 6-7.
The Tigers earned wins over Reading, 12-5, Governor Mifflin, 17-6, Lower Merion, 12-3, and Cumberland Valley, 7-5.
Filip Malezanov had goals and two assists, and Thomas Bihler added three goals to lead the way against Lower Merion. Tabari Morgan’s four goals and two assists paced the Tigers against Cumberland Valley.
Against Reading, Morgan had four goals, Callan Bunger had three, and Mason Shantz and Grant Regule tallied two each. Bunger and Morgan each had four goals, Caden Currykosky had three, and Regule and Logan Purnell had two apiece against Governor Mifflin.
Mike Stefanko made 34 saves in the tournament.
The NA girls went 1-2 with a win over Lower Merion, 21-5, and losses to Governor Mifflin, 19-4, and Cumberland Valley, 5-2.
Bella Spino had seven goals, Tori Tieppo had four goals and four assists, and Makaela Dassanaike and Lila Torchia tallied three goals apiece in the victory. Katherine Vales had nine saves to secure the win.
Tigers girls volleyball tops Rams
North Allegheny girls volleyball stayed unbeaten with a 3-1 win over Pine-Richland, 25-21, 18-25, 25-14, 25-9, on Sept. 10.
Geneva Adams had 11 kills, Molly Robertson had 10 kills, and Mackenzie Jones added nine kills and 11 assists. Keely McMahon-Regan had 28 assists and three aces. Bridgit Murphy contributed five blocks, Alicia Mokube added four blocks and Macy Casten had 19 digs and three aces for the Tigers (3-0, 1-0).
NA boys golf locks up section title
The North Allegheny boys golf team beat Pine-Richland, 181-185, on Sept. 11 at Treesdale Country Club, to secure the Tigers’ first section title since 2015.
Preston Troiano shot 3-under par 33 to lead NA, followed by Ravi Desai (35), Charlie Burbick (36), Chris Hoffman (38) and Liam Cooper (39).
The win helped the Tigers improve to 14-2 overall and 10-1 in section matches.
Girls soccer blanks Allderdice
Isabella Costa, Mia Bosley and Kieran Shannon scored and Margaret Nestor preserved the shutout as North Allegheny scored a 3-0 shutout over Allderdice (2-4, 1-2) on Sept. 11, in Section 3-4A.
The win helped the Tigers improve to 4-2 overall and 2-1 in section play.
Girls golfers top Seneca Valley
North Allegheny’s girls golf team moved to 10-2 overall and 9-1 in section matches with a 174-189 win over Seneca Valley on Sept. 11 at Diamond Run Golf Course.
Kayli Dings shot 36, followed by Omisa Shah (44), Grace Means (45), Kirsten Karlovits (49) and Ava Azzanni (49).
NA boys fall to Pine-Richland
North Allegheny’s boys soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision to Pine-Richland on Sept. 10.
Nick Denysenko scored and Ryan Young made five saves for the Tigers, who fell to 4-2-1 overall and 1-1 in section play.
Tigers runners earn wins over Mars
The North Allegheny boys and girls cross country teams swept Mars on Sept. 10, with the boys winning 17-46, and the girls earning a 15-50 victory at North Park.
Sebastian Klimchak won the boys race in 17 minutes, 33 seconds. Lydia Stuart won the girls race in 20:52.
The teams also found success at the Red, White and Blue Invitational on Sept. 7.
The NA girls earned the Class 3A title with 88 points. Robin Kucler finished 11th overall, followed by teammates Elizabeth Pizon in 13th, Camille Swirsding in 15th and Kendall Lucas in 20th.
The Tigers boys team took second place behind Grove City, as Jack Bertram placed fifth and Andrew Peigh finished 13th.
