North Allegheny notebook: Tigers girls soccer tops North Hills

North Allegheny’s girls soccer team scored a key midseason victory Sept. 25 with a 3-0 shutout over rival North Hills to snap a two-game losing streak.

Averie Bierker scored twice, and Emma Schupansky added goal as the Tigers improved to 7-5 overall and 4-2 in Section 3-4A.

Margaret Nestor and Jordan Beemer combined for the shutout in goal, and Ava Hutter had an assist for the Tigers, who were No. 3 in Class 4A in the Sept. 22 Trib HSSN rankings.

After last Wednesday’s games, the Tigers were in third place in Section 3 behind Seneca Valley (7-2-1, 5-0) and Pine-Richland (7-3, 5-1).

Boys soccer team wins 4th straight

The North Allegheny boys soccer team moved to 8-2-1 overall with a 2-0 win over Montour on Sept. 21. It was the Tigers’ fourth straight win.

Nathan Katari and Caleb Rumberger scored and Ryan Young made two saves to secure the shutout for North Allegheny, which was the No. 1-ranked team in Class 4A by Trib HSSN on Sept. 22.

Heading into Thursday’s game at North Hills, NA was tied for the Section 3-4A lead with Fox Chapel at 4-1.

NA volleyball holds off North Catholic

North Allegheny’s girls volleyball team battled North Catholic in a five-set match Sept. 25, hanging on for a 3-2 victory, 28-26, 25-18, 22-25, 27-29, 15-6.

Molly Robertson had 28 kills, Reagan Riordan added six aces and 17 digs, and Macey Casten had 26 digs. Keely McMahon-Regan had 29 assists, and Mackenzie Jones had 20 assists and five blocks for the Tigers, who improved to 7-0 overall.

Field hockey blanks Hempfield

North Allegheny’s field hockey team posted a 10-0 victory over Hempfield on Sept. 24.

Josie Schomburg (3), Addison Burns (2), Bailey Yatcko (2), Mia Brinkley, Ryann Snowden and Elizabeth Petschke scored for the Tigers, who improved to 5-7 overall and 3-3 in Section 1-3A.

Kayla Joyce earned the win in net.

Golfers advance at WPIAL tournament

Five members of the North Allegheny boys golf team advanced to the final round of the WPIAL individual tournament last week.

Ravi Desai shot 2-over 74 at Southpointe Golf Club to finish second in the first round of the tournament. Chris Hoffman (77) was in ninth and Preston Troiano (78) was in 10th. North Allegheny’s Liam Cooper and Colin Ward each shot 82 and also advanced to the final round, which was scheduled for Tuesday at Oakmont Country Club.

• For the NA girls, Kayli Dings shot 9-over 81 to finish fourth in the WPIAL first round last week at Willowbrook Country Club. The top 36 finishers advanced to the final round, which was set for Monday at Butler Country Club.

Football team tops Norwin

Brady Brinkley threw for 156 yards and a touchdown and scored on a 53-yard run as top-ranked North Allegheny scored a 36-14 victory over No. 4 Norwin (2-3, 0-2) in a Class 6A matchup Sept. 20.

James Donaldson and Colman Craft caught TD passes, Luke Rohan scored on a 25-yard run and Liam Flaherty added an 8-yard TD run for the Tigers (5-0, 2-0).
