North Allegheny returns to PIAA title match by topping Garnet Valley in semifinals

The North Allegheny girls volleyball Twitter account has pinned photo of the team celebrating its 2017 PIAA championship, complete with the golden ball trophy and a 15-foot long banner proclaiming the Tigers state champions.

On Saturday, the Tigers will get a chance to update that photo.

North Allegheny defeated Garnet Valley, 3-1, in the PIAA Class 4A semifinals Tuesday at Big Spring High School by scores of 25-23, 23-25, 25-12 and 25-21.

The WPIAL champion Tigers improved to 22-0.

They will take on District 1 champion Bishop Shanahan (22-0) in the PIAA title game at 6 p.m. Saturday at Cumberland Valley High School in Mechanicsburg.
