North Allegheny, Shaler boys volleyball teams hold on to No. 1 spots in latest coaches association polls

North Allegheny (Class 3A) and Shaler (Class 2A) maintained their No. 1 positions in their respective classifications as the Western Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association released its Week 2 WPIAL boys volleyball top-10 polls Monday morning.
The WPIAL programs continue to gear up for the start of section play in the early part of the season.
While NA remains at the top, Pine-Richland moved up to No. 2 in the Class 3A rankings, while Seneca Valley dropped down one spot to No. 3.
Latrobe, which captured the North Allegheny Invitational title Saturday, remains at No. 4.
Rounding out the top 10 is Butler, Penn-Trafford, Hempfield, Norwin, Canon-McMillan and Gateway.
Hempfield (No. 7) and Gateway (No. 10) move into the rankings this week.
Ambridge, an NA Invitational semifinalist, remains at No. 2 behind Shaler in the Class 2A rankings.
There was no movement in or out of the Class 2A poll. The biggest mover was Montour, which jumped up two spots this week to No. 8.
Mars, North Catholic and Seton LaSalle remained Nos. 3, 4 and 5, respectively. The rest of the top 10 features South Fayette, Thomas Jefferson, Montour, Derry and Hopewell.
Each week throughout the season, all 45 boys volleyball head coaches have the opportunity to cast a ballot for the top-10 rankings and also nominate players for each classification’s players of the week.
