North Allegheny sweeps WPIAL Class 3A diving gold

For the second time in four years, North Allegheny divers swept the WPIAL Class 3A championships at their home pool Saturday.

Ethan Maravich became the fourth Tigers diver to win the boys title while Maggie Lapina gave North Allegheny its sixth straight girls championship.

Maravich (532.30) was one of three divers to crack the 500-point mark. Fox Chapel’s Jackson Hagler (515.75) was second and Mt. Lebanon’s Malcolm Thompson (501.85) finished third. Upper St. Clair’s Carter Wells (499.20) took fourth.

Lapina finished with a score of 477.60 to get past Mars’ Mya Lee (467.35). North Allegheny’s Juliet Hood was third (430.35) and Seneca Valley’s Ali Waters (426.70) took fourth.

The top four divers in the boys and girls competition advance to states March 14-15 at Bucknell.

The Tigers last swept in 2022 when Will Schenk and Christina Shi took the titles. In addition to Shi’s four consecutive championships from 2020-23, Lola Malarky was last year’s winner on the girls side.

On the boys side, Fox Chapel teammates (362.90) and Finn Kress (327.75) finished eighth and 11th. Franklin Regional’s Mackinley Miller (304.65) was 12th.

In the girls competition, Fox Chapel’s Ainsley Anderson (372.65) was 11th, Noelle Dick (351.15) 15th and Ellie Darling (137.00) 23rd.

Latrobe’s Giada Angelicchio (242.25) finished 17th and teammate Maria Thunberg (131.40) was 25th. Penn-Trafford’s Caroline Davis (143.45) took 21st.
