Former WPIAL track standout Ayden Owens-Delerme, a qualifier for this summer’s Olympic Games, was among 13 individuals selected for induction into the North Allegheny Athletics Hall of Fame.

The school’s athletic department announced the 2024 class May 16.

Also selected for induction were athletes Caroline Wrigley (golf), Abby McKiernan Tevis (volleyball), Rachel Martindale (basketball, softball), James Max Staresinic (water polo), Andrew McMillan (track and field, football), Jared Isaacs (tennis), E.J. Heckert (baseball), Domenic Forys (wrestling), Jordan Macey (softball), Anna Li (tennis), Mason Gonzalez (swimming) and coach Dan Schall (volleyball), who retired in 2022 as a 17-time WPIAL champion.

In 19 seasons as the boys volleyball coach, Schall’s teams went 365-37 and won 16 WPIAL titles and five state championships. He coached the girls team for eight years and won a WPIAL title in 2008.

The hall also bestows four individual awards each year.

Lynn Leight was selected for the Bob Miller Award, which recognizes an outstanding supporter of North Allegheny athletics.

Two awards recognize distinguished coaching. Dave Hungerman will receive the Dr. Lawrence Bozzomo Award and Dom Gliozzi was chosen for the Bob Austen Award.

The Joe Drazenovich Award for legendary service will be given to Steve Heckmann.

The class will be honored with an induction banquet Oct. 17 at the Chadwick in Wexford. This is the 27th class chosen for hall of fame, which started in 1997.

Owens-Delerme, a 2018 graduate, qualified in April to represent Puerto Rico this summer in Paris. He did so by winning the decathlon at the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, Calif., with a career-best score of 8,732 points.

His total broke his own Puerto Rican national record of 8,532 points set at the 2022 World Championships. The Olympic qualifying standard is 8,460.

Owens-Delerme has Puerto Rican heritage on his mother’s side, which allows him to represent the U.S. territory in international athletics.

The Olympic track and field events are scheduled for Aug. 1-10.

At North Allegheny, Owens-Delerme was a standout hurdler and six-time state champion. He won the 300-meter hurdles three years in a row, won the 110 hurdles twice and won the 200-meter dash as a senior.

He was named as the Gatorade Pennsylvania men’s track and field athlete of the year in 2018. In college, he was a three-time NCAA champion.

Martindale was a TribLive HSSN Athlete of the Year. The 2019 graduate was a multi-sport standout for North Allegheny who later played basketball at Akron.
