Norwin’s Adalena Robb finished third at the Westmoreland County Coaches Association girls golf championship at Champion Lakes Golf Course.

Robb shot 41 in the nine-hole event, which was won by Greensburg Central Catholic’s Alayna Stawovy (38).

Robb and Franklin Regional’s Gianna Johnson were paired together and went back-and-forth. Robb had bogeys on holes No. 1, 2, 4 and 7, while Johnson, the 2023 WCCA winner, had bogies on Nos. 3, 4 and 9, and a triple-bogey 7 on No. 6.

Johnson was a four-time medalist. She placed second in 2024 and third in 2022.

“I hit the ball well,” Robb said. “I only had one bad shot. I just need to be dialed in with the short putts. I missed a couple short ones.”

Knights move to 2-1

Norwin took momentum into its Class 6A football conference opener with a convincing 35-0 win over Latrobe.

The Knights (2-1) limited the Wildcats (1-2) to 92 yards rushing and rolled to a road win, turning a nine-game losing streak into two straight wins.

Norwin senior quarterback Tristyn Tavares rushed for two touchdowns and passed for two others to lead the way.

The uptempo Knights started fast, converting on 62- and 87-yard drives.

Tavares tossed a 17-yard score to Josh Lenart, and Giovanni Rothrauff scored on a 7-yard run to make it 14-0.

“The guys up front, they are doing a heck of a job for us, whether it is a run or pass,” Norwin coach Mike Brown said. “When you give a player like Tristyn that much time, good things happen, especially with our receivers.

“Tristyn knows it, and the offensive line knows. It takes all 11 to run this offense.”

Tavares later found budding Potter Brozeski for a 49-yard touchdown to make it 21-0.

Late in the half, Lenart intercepted a pass and nearly scored.

Tavares scored on the Knights’ first two possessions in the third quarter on 30- and 14-yard touchdown runs. That put the game into the “mercy rule” running clock with a 35-point lead in the second half.

“The game was not too challenging based on the score,” Tavares said. “But we want to come out and set the tempo early. We moved at a quick pace early and then made some mistakes, and the coaches told us about that.

“We have a standard that we want to play at. I am so proud of the offensive line. That was the best pass protection I have ever had in my life.”

Rothrauff had his third consecutive 100-yard plus game. He finished with 116 yards and a score.

Tavares rushed for 56 yards and completed 9 of 14 passes for 134 yards. Brozeski had three catches for 100 yards.

Knights win race

The Norwin girls cross country team won the Red, White & Blue Classic at White Oak Park with 55 points to ease past South Fayette and Morgantown (W.Va.) for the Class 3A title.

Knights’ senior Annie Czajkowski won the individual race in 17 minutes, 52.9 seconds — 12 seconds ahead of North Allegheny’s Samantha Strelick.

Sophomore Ben McBride took fourth in the boys 3A race in 15:54, the second-fastest time in program history.

Norwin’s Ransom Gaydos (17:24.2) and Declan O’Donnell (17:31.6) finished 1-2 in the boys junior varsity meet.

Lady Knights take opener

Norwin’s girls soccer team cruised past Hempfield, 13-0, to win the Section 1-4A opener.

They followed with a second straight shutout, topping formidable 3A team Franklin Regional, 5-0.

Leesia Phetsomphou had two goals, while Cameryn Reed, Gianna Marts and Nicole Bown had one apiece.

Knights rout Hempfield

Maksim Miller scored two goals, and Ian Natale, Ryan Schoemer, Joey Walton and Jack Lepore had one apiece to lead the Norwin boys soccer team to its first win of the season, 6-2, against Hempfield.

Walton and Schoemer also had assists.
