Norwin notebook: Soccer teams well represented on all-WPIAL lists

Norwin’s soccer teams were rewarded for strong regular seasons and playoff runs with postseason accolades.

The Knights were well-represented on the all-WPIAL lists.

Daniel Maddock was selected to the boys Class 4A list, while two Norwin girls made the list in Class 4A in seniors Julia Bursick and Carmella Simco.

Maddock also was named the Section 1 player of the year.

Pons’ pick

Miami Ohio freshman safety Jackson Pons, a Norwin alum, registered his first interception at the college level. He picked off a pass in the RedHawks’ 46-7 win over Central Michigan.

Men’s soccer

Penn State Behrend: Freshman goalie Anthony Scalise earned the shutout as the Lions ran their unbeaten streak to seven with a 4-0 victory over Carlow.

Women’s soccer

Penn State Behrend: Junior goalkeeper Riley Morningstar has made 16 starts and leads the Lions with 30 saves and a 78.9 save percentage.

Robert Morris: Junior forward and captain Paloma Swankler scored a goal and assisted another as the Colonials clipped Wright State, 2-1, to clinch a spot in the Horizon League playoffs.

Women’s volleyball

Waynesburg: Senior Jordan Stein had 25 digs to lead the Yellow Jackets in a 3-2, PAC victory against Westminster.

Penn State Behrend: Junior goalkeeper Riley Morningstar has made 16 starts and leads the Lions with 30 saves and a 78.9 save percentage.

Saint Vincent: Freshman Dakota Hershberger was named the PAC Newcomer of the Week. She had 20 kills and a .203 hitting percentage in two matches.
