It will be one more go-round for Norwin senior Rachel Minteer.

The first baseman was selected to play in the Western Pennsylvania Softball All-Star Game at 7 p.m. June 24 at Plum.

Minteer will play for Team Black against Team Gold in the eight-inning game meant for seniors. It will be her last game at the high school level.

“The goal is just to have fun,” Minteer said. “I am looking forward to playing with some old teammates and just enjoying my last game.”

This is the second year for the all-star game. Last year, Norwin’s Brookelyn Kotch was the Team Black MVP in a 7-4 win.

Minteer’s former travel ball teammates who also were selected to play include Grace Hensch of Knoch, Gia Stanek of Mt. Pleasant, Calise Czekanski of Armstrong and Elizabeth Forward’s Alivia Grimm.

Each all-star is expected to get at least one at-bat, while pitchers will throw a minimum of one inning. Each half-inning will cap the scoring at three runs per team.

Minteer will wear her Norwin uniform one last time in the game.

She could play again post high school, but this also could be her last game.

“I am not playing in college,” she said. “I decided to pursue a career in nursing and wanted to focus on my education, but I do want to join a club team in the future.”

Brozeski drops 10

Norwin basketball player Avery Brozeski made memories at the Roundball Classic all-star weekend at North Allegheny.

The senior guard scored 10 points to help lead the Class 6A team to an 80-60 victory over Class 5A.

Whalen all-region

Seton Hill baseball player Jack Whalen, a Norwin alum, was named to the ABCA/Rawlings All-Atlantic Region second team after another stellar season for the Griffins (40-18), who played in their third straight Super Regional.

Whalen, a junior outfielder, hit .318 with a team-leading 58 runs, 64 hits, six triples, five home runs and 31 RBIs. He also stole 21 bases in 28 attempts.

In his three-year career, Whalen has 173 hits and 104 stolen bases.
