Norwin punter Evan Pfeifer has his first NCAA Division I football opportunity.

And he didn’t exactly see it coming.

Air Force, an FBS program, extended an offer to the strong-legged senior, who is primed to pin opponents deep this season.

Air Force does not offer athletic scholarships, so Pfeifer would get an academic deal paid for by the government. The plan includes prep school for a year for academic qualification, followed by four years of athletic eligibility.

“I was expecting the offer at some point, but didn’t expect it to come before the season,” Pfeifer said. “The coach that has been recruiting me, coach (Brett) Skene, found out about me from the different camps I go to.”

The 6-foot-3 Pfeifer is ranked the No. 20 punter in the country by Kohl’s Kicking Camps. He also frequents Hammer Kicking events, which also has helped his exposure.

Air Force recruited him as a punter, his specialty, but he also could kick field goals and extra points in college.

“It feels great to get the opportunity,” he said. “My goal is to punt at the D-I level. I’ve always wanted to compete at the highest level I could achieve.”

Pfeifer averaged 42.1 yards per punt with a long of 68 yards.
