The top wrestling program in the NCAA, Penn State, got a commit from one of the top juniors in the state.
Norwin’s Landon Sidun announced Monday that he is committing to the Nittany Lions. Sidun is ranked as the No. 2 recruit in the Class of 2027, according to FloWrestling.
He is the second commit for Penn State after Gavin Mangano committed Sept. 29.
Sidun selected the Nittany Lions from more the 30 college programs. He made official visits to Penn State, Pitt and Ohio State.
Sidun was Norwin’s second PIAA champion, winning in 2024. The first was Kurtis Phipps in 2020.
An injury to his right hand forced him to miss the 2025 Class 3A WPIAL and PIAA tournaments. He was favored to repeat as a PIAA champion.
He was 42-2 in 2024 and 30-0 in 2025.
Sidun won his first Powerade Tournament in 2024.
“Penn State is a great program, and after my visits, it was the place I wanted to be,” Sidun said. “There is a great atmosphere there, a great coach, top-notch facilities and a place you want to be around.”
Sidun did not have surgery on his hand. Instead, it was in a cast.
He said he was disappointed he could not compete.
He did not enter any tournaments this summer. But he put in extensive training at Pitt and Penn State.
Sidun will compete for the first time this weekend. He is headed to the Who’s Number One tournament at the Xtream Arena in Coralville, Iowa. He will compete at 120 pounds.
“I am very excited to compete,” Sidun said. “I have been looking forward to get back on the mat.
”I know I am going to be very prepared. I have had a lot of training time.”
Sidun got injured Feb. 1 in the WPIAL 3A third-place match.
Norwin senior Josephine Dollman committed to Edinboro.
Sidun is not the only junior to commit early. They become official during their senior seasons.
Latrobe’s Hunter Snyder committed to Pitt, Derry’s Mason Horwat committed to Pitt, and teammate Brady Brown committed to Purdue. Connellsville’s Kai Vielma committed to Stanford, and Kiski Area senior Cooper Roscosky committed to Buffalo.
Belle Vernon senior Elijah Brown committed to Pitt in 2023.
