Norwin’s Landon Sidun 1 of 4 WPIAL wrestlers to make Powerade semifinals

Norwin’s Landon Sidun began the defense of his 121-pound title at the ultracompetitive Powerade tournament at Canon-McMillan successfully Friday, winning three times to advance to the semifinals.
After two tech falls, Sidun blanked Gabe Swann of Baylor, Tenn., 14-0 in the quarters. He will meet No. 4 Brock Rothermel of Line Mountain in the semifinals Tuesday.
Sidun was one of the four WPIAL wrestlers to make the semifinals.
At 172 pounds, Derry’s Mason Horwat earned a tech fall and major decision then defeated second-seeded Titus Norman of Baylor, Tenn., 3-2, in the quarterfinals. Horwat will take on No. 6 Max Fortier of University, W. Va., in the semifinals.
At 189 pounds, Kiski Area’s Mario Hutcherson recorded two tech falls then beat Wyoming Seminary’s Lucas Parletti, 10-3, in the quarters. He’ll meet top seed Dominic Sumpolec of Notre Dame GP in the semifinals.
At 107 pounds, Canon-McMillan’s Lee Dreshman had a tech fall and a pin before getting past Ace Chittum of Cleveland, Tenn., 3-2. Dreshman will meet top seed Kooper Deputy of Chestnut Ridge in the semis.
Southmoreland Holiday Classic – West Allegheny sent five wrestlers through to the semifinals to lead the WPIAL contingent at Southmoreland. Michael Johnson (114), AJ Snatchko (133), Thomas Bencho (139), Blake Schepis (172) and Cam Danna (285) advanced for West A. Burgettstown and Butler sent four to the semifinals while Beth-Center sent three.
