Norwin’s Tulenko takes 6th at WPIAL championships

Norwin swimmers gained valuable experience last week at the WPIAL championship meet at Pitt's Trees Pool.

Sophomore Ethan Tulenko was the highest finisher for the Knights, earning a sixth-place medal in the 50 freestyle (21.53). He also was 13th in the 100 free.

Jordan Kutchak took 19th and Kristy Juart 24th in the girls 50 freestyle. Juart added a 24th-place finish in the 100 breast.

Courtney Kosanovic was 25th, and Elizabeth Smeltzer took 27th in the 200 IM.

Kosanovic also took 26th in the 100 fly. Smeltzer added a 25th in the 100 breast.

Phong Tran was 27th in both the 100 back and 200 IM. Joey Astrab took 23rd in the 100 breast and 31st in the 200 IM.

Michael Fry was 32nd in the 100 fly.

The girls 200 free relay of Sarah Todaro, Juart, Smeltzer and Kutchak took 14th.

The boys 200 medley relay of Tran, Astrab, Brandon Pizzuto and Tulenko finished 14th.

The boys 200 free relay of Tulenko, Austin Livsey, Tran and Astrab was 12th.

Norwin's girls 400 free relay of Kosanovic, Shelby Yusko, Allie Plassio and Kutchak was 18th, and the boys 400 relay of Livsey, Alex Ivory, Fry and Pizzuto was 24th.

The boys finished 20th in the team standings, and the girls were 29th.
