Mackenna Orie continued her assault on the Hempfield track and field record book this week.

On Saturday, the senior set the school’s record in the shot put with a throw of 46 feet, 7 ½ inches in winning the Lady Spartan/Wildcat Invitational. The DePaul commit broke the record of 46-4 1/2 set by Rachel Serafin (2011) and moved into fifth place in WPIAL history.

On Tuesday, she shattered the school’s discus mark with a throw of 153-11, breaking the previous record of 149-9 held by Kim Kanala (2007).

She now stands third overall in WPIAL history in the discus.

Orie said her next goal is to surpass 50 feet in the shot put, which she has achieved at practice and warmups according to Hempfield throwing coach Dave Murray.
