Penn Hills football’s appeal to WPIAL among Monday’s 3 things to watch in HS sports

The WPIAL board scheduled an afternoon hearing Monday to consider an appeal from Penn Hills administrators and Indians football coach Jon LeDonne, who’s facing a one-game suspension .
The WPIAL disciplined LeDonne and Penn Hills athletics after someone ignited a smoke grenade on their side of the football field before the WPIAL Class 5A championship at Norwin in November.
The hearing follows the monthly board of directors meeting.
Basketball showcase at Woodland Hills
The MLK Weekend Stand Against Violence Basketball Showcase, a three-day event at Woodland Hills, concludes with a four-game schedule.
The final day starts at 11 a.m. when Kiski School plays Mt. Zion Academy (N.C.).
Stow-Munroe Falls faces Wesley Christian (Ky.) at 12:30 p.m., Westtown faces Baltimore Polytechnic at at 2 p.m., and Virginia Academy plays Benedictine (Ohio) at 3:30 p.m.
Sections schedules approach final stretch
The WPIAL has a full slate of girls basketball games Monday night.
Among the top matchups, No. 1-ranked North Allegheny visits No. 5 Seneca Valley in Section 1-6A.
