Penn Hills notebook: 3 seniors chosen for East-West all-star game

Donovan Burnett, Naytel Mitchell and Ron Porter III were all selected to play in the Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association East-West Large School All-Star game.
The three Indians senior football players are all moving on to play at the next level.
Mitchell, a Sacramento State signee, rushed for over 1,000 yards during his senior season. Burnett, who played on the offensive and defensive line, signed to play with Virginia Military Institute. Porter, a defensive back, signed to play with Cal (Pa.).
The PSFCA organizes two East-West all-star games each year, one for small schools (Class A to 3A) and another for big schools (4A to 6A). Both games are May 18 at Cumberland Valley. Kickoff for the big school all-star game is 5 p.m. The small school game starts at noon.
Epperson dives in
Mikael Epperson got an extended look at what it will take to challenge to be one of the best divers in the WPIAL. During the Class 3A championships, the Penn Hills sophomore finished in 16th place with a score of 208.95. Epperson had never competed in diving before this season.
North Allegheny’s Ethan Maravich won the event with a score of 532.30.
Phipps, Repovich at WPIALs
Penn Hills junior Daemon Phipps equaled his career-best win total by picking up a win during the WPIAL Class 3A tournament Feb. 21-22 at Canon-McMillan. Phipps finished 1-2 while competing in the 114-pound weight class.
Phipps, who finished the season 25-12, is now 64-31 in his career. Brad Repovich, who was also making his first appearance at WPIALs, went 0-2 at 145 pounds.
Repovich finished 9-15, a six-win improvement from last season.
Bowlers’ bests
Logan Kosko-Kennedy and Nick Hepler led the Penn Hills bowling team during the regular season by posting averages of 198.47 and 197.56, respectively. Hepler had a high game this season of 276, while Kosko-Kennedy’s high game was 269. Kosko-Kennedy had a high series of 681, while Hepler’s high series was 671.
On the girls side, Brooke Davis posted the eighth-best scoring average in the East section for the Indians. She averaged 145.57. Davis’ high game was 188 and her high series was 483.
Redeemer bowler qualifies
Quinton McGeary, who was a WPIBL qualifier, led the Redeemer Lutheran boys team with an average of 182.43. Logan Brown was second on the team with an average of 161.11.
On the girls side, Makayla Fox led the Rams with an average of 118.44.
Redeemer went 4-6 on the boys side in team competition, while the girls finished 3-6.
