Penn Hills girls soccer goalie Atheena Burnett put in a hard day’s work in the Indians’ 3-0 loss to Gateway on Sept. 23. Burnett made 40 stops to help keep her team in the game.

Penn Hills is in the middle of a rough stretch of play. The Indians haven’t scored since they beat Obama Academy, 1-0, in Section 1-3A play Sept. 11 at home. Penn Hills (1-9-1, 1-7) will get another opportunity to face Obama Academy during the back half of section play.

Thomas brothers make plays

Penn Hills graduate Cameron Thomas has found his way onto the football field as a freshman during the past few weeks for Clarion. Thomas has batted down a pass and recorded two tackles.

The Golden Eagles are off to a 2-2 start.

Corey Thomas Jr., who is a graduate student at Virginia, has been a contributor for the Cavaliers. So far this season, Corey has recorded 11 tackles. He also has forced a fumble and batted down a pass. Corey previously played at Akron.

Dugger produces

Jaden Dugger, who transferred from Georgetown to the University of Louisiana, has been growing into his role with the Ragin’ Cajuns. Dugger has 11 tackles so far this season.

Dugger has also recorded a tackle for loss and has a hit on the quarterback.

Boys soccer adds win

The Indians added a second win to their record in a nonsection game against Burrell. Chase Delahanty and Freddy Takou each scored to help Penn Hills (2-9, 0-5) beat the Buccaneers.

The Indians are hoping the win could help them turn things around in the back of the Section 1-4A schedule.

Snell steps up

Central Michigan defensive back Aakeem Snell, a 2020 Penn Hills graduate, made his way to the Chippewas from St. Francis. Snell was able to make a memorable debut.

During Central Michigan’s win over Central Connecticut State, Snell returned an interception 46 yards for a touchdown. The Chippewas won the game 66-10.

Central Michigan won its MAC opener 37-34 against Ball State. The Chippewas are 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference.
