Greensburg native Brandon Martin has his first Power Four college basketball scholarship offer.
Penn State offered the 6-foot-7 sophomore during his visit to University Park this weekend.
Martin, a wing-forward who plays at the Phelps School in Malvern, Chester County, has seven Division I offers, none as eminent as the one he received from the Nittany Lions, who also offered Indiana 6-8 senior Aaron Webb.
Martin left Greensburg Central Catholic last year and reclassified at Phelps, a prep boarding school that plays in the Pennsylvania Independent Schools Athletic Association.
Phelps is known for developing players on a national level. The team reached the PAISAA championship in 2024.
Martin, who plays AAU basketball for Wildcat Select, was beaming Saturday when Penn State offered. He was at Latrobe on Friday night to watch some of the Wildcat tip-off tournament.
“It’s a great feeling, especially since it’s the home team,” he said. “I think it just goes to show the amount of effort and work I put in every day. I’m gonna enjoy this feeling for the rest of (Saturday) and then get right back to work.”
Martin’s other offers are from Kent State, Ohio, La Salle, Fairfield, Manhattan and Marshall.
Gesinski, Bauer all-state
TribLive Westmoreland Girls Soccer Player of the Year Morgan Gesinski of Mt. Pleasant and Latrobe standout Annalyse Bauer were named to the Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association all-state list.
Gesinski, a talented forward and Robert Morris commit, had 30 goals and 11 assists in her final prep season and finished with 127 career goals, second most in Mt. Pleasant program history.
Bauer, an Eastern Michigan recruit, had 20 goals and six assists this season for the Wildcats and set the Latrobe girls record with 76 career goals.
White a winner
Franklin Regional boys soccer coach Nick White guided the Class 3A all-stars to a 5-3 win over Class 4A in the Western Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association 4A/3A All-Star Game Saturday at Pine-Richland.
The game was for seniors only.
Owen Householder of Thomas Jefferson, Xavier Jackson of Bethel Park (2), Joscan Castillo of Moon and Mason Hall of Hampton had goals in the win.
Cole Radcliffe of Laurel Highlands and Aaron Bouch of West Allegheny (2) had assists for the 3A team.
“The game was extremely well played, hard fought, with great skill, combinations, and even defending, which you don’t typically see a lot of in all-star games,” White said. “I’m personally proud of all players involved as the game showed the extremely high level of talent that we have at the high school level in the WPIAL.”
Gabe Fegely (Canon-McMillan), Braden Crowe (Hempfield) and Gavin Patterson (Canon-McMillan) scored for 4A.
Cruise Lamanna of Franklin Regional, Cooper Geyer of Penn-Trafford and Logan Metzger of Belle Vernon played for 3A. White coached Lamanna one last time.
White expected to coach against Erik Ingram, whom he coached under at Fox Chapel for 10 years before coming to Murrysville, but it was Raf Kolankowski who coached the 4A team instead. Ingram had a scheduling conflict and opted out of the game.
