Penn-Trafford notebook: Hockey team puts together winning streak

Coming out of the holiday break, Penn-Trafford’s hockey team put together a three-game winning streak.

The Warriors defeated Baldwin, 6-1, on Jan. 2, and held on for a 7-6 victory in overtime against Canon-McMillan on Jan. 7.

The first-place Warriors are 11-2-1-1 and sit six points ahead of Latrobe in the standings.

Against Baldwin, Robert Thatcher scored two goals and Marco Ferraccio had two goals and an assist.

Ben Zierski and Cam Kiste scored while Zierski, Catello and Aiden Drotos each had two assists.

Against Canon-McMillan, Drew Hall scored the winning goal in overtime.

A five-goal second period helped the Warriors build a 6-2 before the Big Macs rallied with four goals in the third period to tie the score.

Hall and Drotos scored two goals, Ferraccio had a goal and three assists and Kiste had two assists.

Zierski and Roman Catello each had a goal and Catello had an assist.

The Warriors were scheduled to return to action Jan. 14 against Norwin before having a two-week layoff before a Jan. 30 game at Armstrong.

Cheer team qualifies

Penn-Trafford was one of 12 Class 3A teams from the WPIAL to qualify for the PIAA championships Jan. 30-31 at Santander Arena in Reading.

The Warriors competed in the WPIAL championships at Hempfield on Jan. 3.

South Fayette was the 3A champion while Ambridge won the 2A title.
