It has been more than a month since Mia Williams played in a high school tennis match.

Now the Penn-Trafford senior heads to Hershey to compete in her fourth PIAA Class 3A tournament.

Williams was a WPIAL champion in 2022 and runner-up in 2023, 2024 and 2025.

She has not placed in states, but could this be the year she makes noise.

“That’s the plan,” Williams said after competing in the WPIAL championship. “I have to play my game and eliminate mistakes.”

Williams is scheduled to face District 11 champ Alexandria Warsing of Parkland in the first round Oct. 31 at Hershey Racquet Club.

Williams will attend Skidmore, an NCAA Division III power.

She was a four-time Section 1 champion.

Senior quarterback Nate Desmond threw four touchdown passes to lead Penn-Trafford (8-1) to a 42-7 victory against Armstrong.

Desmond hit Jacob Briggs (36 yards), Tyler Boss (27 yards), Nick Ponko (80 yards) and Landon Srikkel (25 yards) for scores.

He completed 5 of 8 passes for 178 yards.

Ponko also scored on a 50-yard interception return and Nico Cox scored on a 9-yard run.

The Warriors were scheduled to play host to Latrobe on Oct. 24 as they prepared for the WPIAL playoffs, set to begin on Oct. 31.

Skaters go 2-1

The Penn-Trafford hockey team used a strong start and defeated Wheeling Park, 6-2, to improve to 2-1.

Jordan Tucek had three goals while Ben Zierski, Liam Lehneke and Nico Castelli had one each.

The Warriors were scheduled to play host to Armstrong on Oct. 27 and play at Latrobe on Oct. 30.

The Penn-Trafford girls soccer team dropped a first-round match in the WPIAL 3A playoffs to Upper St. Clair, 2-1.

The boys also dropped a 2-1 decision in their first-round match against Mars.
