Penn-Trafford notebook: Senior golfer finishes in top 10 at WCCA tournament

Penn-Trafford senior Jake Lenart shot a 4-over 76 and finished ninth at the annual Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association golf tournament.

Lenart was the low scorer for the Warriors at the Latrobe Elks Golf Course on Sept. 11.

Junior Rylie Kiste shot an 80 and tied for 15th. Senior Austin Dzurko had an 81.

Junior Carter Zeminski shot an 84, senor Dyland Barrett an 85 and junior Kyle Worthigton an 86.

The Warriors finished fifth behind Kiski Area, Latrobe, Norwin and Franklin Regional in the Class 3A team race.

Volleyball wins

The Penn-Trafford girls volleyball team won a big match against rival Hempfield on Sept. 11.

The Warriors won, 3-1, by the scores 26-24, 25-23, 18-25 and 25-20.

Another win

The Penn-Trafford middle school soccer team also defeated Hempfield, 3-0. Zoe Bell scored all three goals. Lyla Lebe and Drea Pecora added assists.

The team also defeated Armstrong, 15-0, and Connellsville, 3-0. Lebe, Bell and Morgan McIntosh had goals against Connellsville.

Football rallies

Landyn Stikkel caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Nate Desmond to complete a 95-yard drive and rally Penn-Trafford to a 25-24 victory against Moon on Sept. 5.

Desmond rushed for a touchdown and threw for 241 yards.

Cody Yacamelli scored two touchdowns and rushed for 84 yards.

The Warriors played the game without injured running back Ben Grabowski and linebacker Jamison Yurt.

Evened up

Noah Haslam and Cooper Geyer netted two goals each as the Penn-Trafford boys soccer team evened its Section 3-3A record at 2-2 with a 6-0 victory over Uniontown.

Colton Payne and Johnny Lovas also scored for the Warriors, who were 5-2 overall.
