Penn-Trafford notebook: Warriors earn all-conference honors

Penn-Trafford was well-represented on the PA Big 5/6 all-conference football this season.

Seven Warriors earned first-team recognition — senior guard Ethan Septak, senior tackle Kellan Taylor, senior tight end Dom Smith, senior running back Tasso Whipple, senior athlete Derek Carr, junior linebacker Jamison Yurt and junior defensive back Tyler Boss.

Senior wide receiver Jack Weishaar, freshman kicker Jack Miller, junior defensive end Jacob Briggs and senior punter Jonny Lovre earned second-team honors.

Woodland Hills’ Scoop Smith was named the conferences’ player of the year, and the Wolverines’ Brian Tarrant was the coach of the year.

The Warriors went 9-3 overall and 5-1 in the Class 5A Big East Conference. They won seven games in a row before falling to Peters Township, 42-13, in the WPIAL quarterfinals.

Girls volleyball players honored

The Penn-Trafford girls volleyball team captured the Section 3-4A championship this season, and several players were honored for their efforts.

Senior libero Kaci DePalma, senior hitter Kylie Anthony, senior setter Kam Pieper and sophomore hitter Ella McDonald was picked to the Section 3 first team.

Anthony was tabbed the section’s player of the year, and Tracy McDonald was the section’s coach of the year.

The Warriors finished 10-7 overall and 9-1 in section play. They earned the No. 8 seed in the WPIAL playoffs and fell to No. 9 Armstrong, 3-1, in the first round.

P-T girls soccer players named all-section

Seven players from the Penn-Trafford girls soccer team earned postseason honors with selection to the PA Big 5/6 all-section team.

Senior forward Alexis Brown, senior midfielder Chloe Walton, junior defenders Morgan Spudy and Anna Coy and senior keeper Rease Solomon was first-team selections.

Senior defender Bryana Bennett and sophomore midfielder Avery Bosack were second-team honorees.

P-T’s Jim Mastroianni was named the section’s coach of the year. Latrobe’s Maddy Petruzzi was the section’s player of the year. The Warriors (13-5) won the Section 1-4A title with a 9-1 record. They lost to Canon-McMillan, 3-1, in the WPIAL quarterfinals.

Warriors take down Hempfield

Aiden Drotos had two goals and two assists and Robert Thatcher added two goals and one assist to lead Penn-Trafford (8-2) to a 9-2 victory over Hempfield in a PIHL Class 2A game Nov. 25.

Brock Bienemann collected a goal and two assists and Roman Catello and Cam Kiste each had a goal and an assist as Penn-Trafford improved to 8-2. The Warriors lead the Class 2A standings with 24 points.

Jonny Holtzman and Nick Crupie scored for Hempfield (3-4).

P-T grads shine at Grove City

Grove City junior linebacker Jack Jollie (Penn-Trafford) and junior offensive tackle Luke Jollie (Penn-Trafford) were named to the All-PAC Second Team.

Jack Jollie made 63 tackles from middle linebacker, adding 8.5 tackles for loss and three sacks. A first-year starter, Luke Jollie started eight games at right tackle and two at left tackle.

No. 12 Grove City (9-1) was to visit Johns Hopkins Saturday in the second round of the NCAA Division III playoffs.

Junior running back Ian Demeri (Penn-Trafford) helped the Wolverines to a 36-9 win over Westminster to secure the PAC title as he rushed for a career-high 163 yards and three touchdowns. He had an 88-yard run to set up a score.
