For the first time, a goalkeeper has won the Moe Rosensteel Most Outstanding Player Award.
Molly Kubistek of Peters Township won the award, given annually to the top girls soccer player in the WPIAL since 2019.
Kubistek, a University of Cincinnati recruit, led Peters Township to the WPIAL Class 4A championship, including a 1-0 victory over Seneca Valley in penalty kicks in the finals. Peters went 19-1-1 this season, allowing a total of 11 goals.
Kubistek went a full month of the season without allowing a goal, from a 3-1 win over Canon-McMillan on Sept. 15 to a 2-1 overtime win over North Allegheny in the WPIAL semifinals on Oct. 28. There were seven shutouts in between.
Kubistek was chosen by a panel of coaches and media members over finalists Morgan Gesinski of Mt. Pleasant, Emily McKee of Fox Chapel and Robin Reilly of Latrobe.
Previous winners of the award were Ellie Coffield of Mars (2019), Sarah Schupansky of North Allegheny (2020), Kelsey Salopek of Steel Valley (2021), Hailey Longwell of Moon (2022) and Lola Abraham of Riverview (2023).
The award is named for the late Katelyn “Moe” Rosensteel, a former Ringgold standout.
