Jeannette High School has a new athletic director.

Acting high school assistant principal Bill Petko, a 1995 Connellsville graduate, replaced Anthony DeNunzio on Jan. 1.

DeNunzio, 38, a 1996 Jeannette grad, said he didn't want to step down from his dream job, but he couldn't pass up a new and exciting opportunity working with his brother-in-law. He has been the athletic director the past two years.

“It's a sad day to have Anthony leave,” Jeannette principal Patricia Rozycki said. “It's going to be tough to replace him.”

DeNunzio was in charge of the athletic program that produced a WPIAL and PIAA champion in football and the school's first WPIAL baseball title.

“I'm going to hang around and help out when I can,” DeNunzio said.
