PIAA seeding to be decided among WPIAL girls basketball teams

The Path to the Pete is heating up with eight more girls basketball semifinals games in Class 6A, 4A, 2A and A on Monday and Tuesday before the six WPIAL championship games are set for later this week at Pitt’s Petersen Events Center.
At the same time, consolation games will continue as teams fight for PIAA girls postseason berths and state basketball seeding.
The PIAA girls basketball playoffs begin with first round action March 7-8.
Here is an update of the WPIAL teams that have qualified and the final order in which they will be seeded out of District 7.
Girls 6A — 3 teams
The championship game between the Norwin Knights-Canon-McMillan Big Macs winner and the Upper St. Clair Panthers-Mt. Lebanon Blue Devils winner will determine the No. 1 and 2 seeds. The two losers will meet in the 6A consolation game, which will be a win-and-you’re-in game for the state playoffs.
Girls 5A — 8 teams
The winner of the 5A championship game between the South Fayette Lions and the Peters Township Indians will be the No. 1 seed; the loser will be No. 2.
The 5A third-place consolation winner between Mars and Thomas Jefferson will be No. 3, and the loser is No. 4.
The winner of the fifth-place consolation game between the Baldwin Highlanders at the Penn-Trafford Warriors on Tuesday will be the No. 5 seed, and the loser in No. 6.
Bethel Park is at Indiana in the seventh-place consolation game Tuesday. The winner is the No. 7 seed and the loser in No. 8.
Girls 4A — 6 teams
The semifinals, championship game and third-place consolation game will determine the 1-4 seeds between the Blackhawk Cougars, Oakland Catholic Eagles, North Catholic Trojans and Elizabeth Forward Warriors.
The winner of the Laurel Highlands Mustangs at South Park Eagles fifth-place consolation game will be No. 5 and the loser in No. 6.
Girls 3A — 6 teams
The winner of the 3A championship game between the Shady Side Academy Bulldogs and the Greensburg Central Catholic Centurions is No. 1, and the loser is No. 2.
The winner of the third-place consolation game between the Ellwood City Wolverines against the Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Chargers is No. 3, and the loser is No. 4.
Avonworth Antelopes and Keystone Oaks Golden Eagles both clinched with consolation wins on Friday. The winner of their fifth-place consolation game on Monday is No. 5, and the loser is No. 6.
Girls 2A — 7 teams
The semifinals, finals and third-place consolation games will determine the 1-4 order between the Neshannock Lancers, Aliquippa Quips, Winchester Thurston Bears and the South Side Rams.
The two rounds of consolation games in 2A will determine the 5-7 order between the Laurel Spartans, Fort Cherry Rangers, Rochester Rams and the Chartiers-Houston Buccaneers.
Girls A — 6 teams
The semifinals, finals and third-place consolation games will determine the 1-4 order between the Union Scotties, Geibel Catholic Gators, Clairton Bears and the Aquinas Academy Crusaders.
The winners of the two Monday consolation game will battle for the fifth and sixth seeds. On Monday, Bishop Canevin visits Serra Catholic and St. Joseph is home to West Greene.
