Pine-Richland, Peters Township, Shady Side Academy earn top seeds for WPIAL field hockey playoffs

The WPIAL field hockey committee on Monday released the brackets for the Class 3A, Class 2A and Class A playoffs.
Pine-Richland (Class 3A), Peters Township (Class 2A) and Shady Side Academy (Class A) are the No. 1 seeds.
Pine-Richland will host No. 4 Norwin in one Class 3A semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
No. 2 Mt. Lebanon will host No. 3 North Allegheny at 7 Wednesday in the other semifinal.
The winners will meet for the title Oct. 28, at North Allegheny.
The Class A and Class 2A championship games will be at 6:30 and 8 p.m., respectively, Oct. 29 at North Allegheny.
Shady Side Academy will host No. 4 Winchester Thurston in the Class A semifinals at 6 p.m. Thursday.
No. 2 Aquinas Academy and No. 3 The Ellis School will follow at 7:30.
Peters Township will host No. 4 Upper St. Clair in one Class 2A semifinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Fox Chapel, the No. 2 seed, will host No. 3 Latrobe at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Pine-Richland is a six-time defending WPIAL Class 3A champion. Last year, Peters Township snapped Penn-Trafford’s eight-year Class 2A title streak.
Shady Side has won six of the past seven WPIAL Class A crowns.
The three WPIAL champions also will move on to the PIAA tournament scheduled to begin Nov. 4.
