Plum baseball opens with pair of victories

Plum found the Florida sun to its liking Friday.

Making their annual trip south for the start of baseball season, the Mustangs swept a pair of games, beating Lutheran South (Mo.), 11-4, and Archbishop Stepinac (N.Y.), 3-0, in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Against Lutheran South, Tanner Ponklin delivered a two-run double, Tanner Froelich had an RBI double and Jackson Rogers hit a two-run triple. Ryan Kircher had an RBI triple and struck out eight in four innings on the mound.

Against Archbishop Stepinac, Markus Cestra doubled and hit a sacrifice fly, Ponklin added an RBI single and Rogers pitched 5 13 innings and struck out eight for Plum (2-0).

Valley 9, Curwensville 0 — Eli Ferres and Shawn Demharter both doubled twice as the Vikings (1-0) began their season with a win at the Ripken Experience in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Andrew Serakowski picked up the win and Dan Antonacci the save for Valley.
