In the first game of the stepladder semifinals of the WPIBL boys team championships Wednesday at AMF Mt. Lebanon, Plum struggled.
It most definitely was not a sign of things to come.
Plum bounced back from a one-game blip, won the next four games and repeated as WPIBL boys team champion.
After qualifying second, Plum faced third-seeded Hempfield in the best-of-three semifinals, and the Spartans rolled to a 157-138 victory in Game 1. The Mustangs averaged 189 from there, winning 176-137 in Game 2 and 188-161 in Game 3.
In the finals against top-seeded Hopewell, Plum had even more success, winning 200-194 in Game 1 and 192-173 in Game 3.
Plum followed the same script last season, losing the first game of the semifinals before reeling off four straight wins to claim the crown.
The girls team tournament is scheduled for Thursday at AMF Mt. Lebanon.
