The 2024 Quaker Valley Sports Hall of Fame weekend will take place in October.

Four former QV athletes, one current coach and two teams will be inducted into the hall of fame this year.

The 2024 class consists of the following former athletes: 2013 graduate Spencer Caravaggio Granger (girls tennis), 1992 graduate Dr. Rick Ruperto (football, basketball, track), 1982 graduate Bobby Farrington (basketball, track) and 1985 graduate Willie Jordan (football, basketball).

The foursome will be joined by QV tennis coach Christi Hays, along with the 1968 QV football team and 2002 QV girls track and field team.

“The Quaker Valley Hall of Fame class of 2024 reflects the strong cross section of athletes, coaches and teams that represent our rich tradition of QV athletics,” said Mike Mastroianni, QV’s athletic director and boys basketball coach. “The impressive accomplishments of this class will make for an exciting hall of fame weekend for all involved.”

Hays coaches both the boys and girls tennis teams at Quaker Valley. She also has been a certified rackets professional (tennis, platform tennis, pickleball) for more than 45 years.

“What an absolute honor to even be considered for the QV Sports Hall of Fame, much less being selected this year,” Hays said. “The news came completely out of the blue and I am still floating. So many words come to mind. I am humbled to be joining the HOF ranks of coaches such as Mike Mastroianni, Jerry Veshio, Edward ‘Pucky’ Perry, Vince Cortese, Kenny Johns, Gene Klein and Kevin Quinn, just to name a few.

“I am so very grateful for all the opportunities Quaker Valley has given me over the last 20-some years. I am also so thankful for the extraordinary support of the QV administration, the athletic department and the Quaker Valley and Sewickley communities for sharing their talented kids with me.”

A reception for the HOF inductees will be held at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 25 prior to the Friday night football game at Chuck Knox Stadium. The Quakers will host McGuffey in a Class 3A conference matchup at 7 p.m..

There will be a brief introduction of this year’s class between the first and second quarters of the varsity football game. The HOF induction banquet will take place at 11 a.m. Oct. 27 at Sewickley Heights Golf Club.

The QV Sports Hall of Fame weekend returned in 2023 after a three-year covid hiatus.

Last year’s hall of fame class consisted of 2010 graduate Tabitha Bemis (track, gymnastics, diving), 1974 graduate Dean Civitkovic (football), Dr. Jeff Mulholland (contributor), 2008 graduate Christa Rogers Pettie (volleyball, basketball, track), 2000 graduate Justin Shegog (boys basketball), 1989 graduate Furman South (hockey), the 1989 boys basketball team and the 1993 boys soccer team.
