The Quaker Valley boys soccer team did not lose a game in September.
QV rang up an 8-0-1 record with the only “blemish” being a 1-1 tie Sept. 25 against Avonworth.
The Quakers outcored their eight other opponents 60-2 last month with seven clean sheets.
“I am proud of how the boys have applied their efforts this season,” QV coach Sean Ryan said. “Being a high schooler in 2025 provides a plethora of excuses to be unfocused. We believe we have a serious group that is able to overcome those outside distractions. I really like where our group stands halfway through section play.”
Overall, QV was 9-1-1 in Section 2-2A, 10-2-1 on the season and at the top of its division in the Trib HSSN’s WPIAL boys soccer rankings. The Quakers were ranked first ahead of South Park, Freeport, Mt. Pleasant and Burrell.
Senior goalkeeper Xander Vescio allowed just six goals in 11 section games and had accounted for the team’s seven shutouts.
“We have pushed through a very difficult part of our schedule and have remained in position to win the most difficult section in 2A,” Ryan said. “We are playing to set ourselves up for a good seeding going into playoffs. We still have a few difficult challenges ahead in order to make that a reality.”
The Quakers held a slim lead as of Sept. 29 over Beaver (9-2) and Avonworth (8-1-1), the second- and third-place teams in the section.
Senior forwards Sutton Hoehl and Isaac Williams have sparked QV offensively with 17 and 12 goals, respectively. Liam Miller, also a senior forward, chipped in with nine goals.
“Our starting lineup is fairly set,” Ryan said. “However, I have a lot of options, and I’ve really liked the efforts of our bench players.
“I have a difficult decision to make before every game day due to the quality (of talent) we have throughout the squad.”
One player the QV coach is glad to get back into the lineup is senior midfielder Levi Carver, who serves as a co-captain with two other seniors, midfielder Patrick Connors and defender Tanner Schultz.
“Levi has recovered from an ACL injury early and will be playing his senior year,” Ryan said. “We feared he would be out until November.”
The Quakers’ defensive corps is led by the likes of Schultz, a second-year captain, Miller, senior Asher Muretisch, junior Will Meagher and sophomore Mike Semonik.
QV finished 14-4-1 in 2024 in Ryan’s first year in charge of the program, ending the regular season with a 14-game unbeaten streak and first-place finish in section play.
The Quakers outscored section opponents 86-8 and 87-14 overall and shared the section title with Avonworth.
“We had a relatively young team last year, led by a very talented 2025 graduating class,” said Ryan, a former QV assistant. “Our strength (this season) is our large senior class that earned a lot of minutes last year. We have nine seniors who all know what the standard has to be from our freshman and sophomore years, and we’re looking to carry and raise that standard.
“As much pressure as it is, the expectations are always the same at Quaker Valley. We have a strong tradition of winning our section as well as really important postseason games.”
The Quakers overpowered Riverside, 8-0, on Sept. 27 in a section game at home as Schultz knocked in two goals. Williams, junior midfielder Breno Geudes, sophomore midfielder Finn Thompson, junior forward Luca Kurumfashe, senior midfielder Levi Carver and freshman forward Connor West all scored once.
QV closes out its regular-season schedule with five section games in October.
